Another pair of custom masks...

We have a group of friends, some of whom are reading this..HI!...who get together every year and visit Mardi Gras in New Orleans each year. They tend to theme their costumes for the days. It seems this year, one of the themes is The Island of Dr. Moreau with a Wild West flavor. So we were honored to create two mask for folks who will be going, and here are some Wild Woses wearing them.

The first is a Jackalope, here worn by Ellawyn. The Jackalope is a rare and elusive creature of the west and indigenous to my home state of Texas. Many people believe them only to be mythical, but Texans know better.

And here is the other, an American Badger, worn by Leah, with her best Badger growl.

Now I should say that Badgers, and the entire Mustelida Family of Animals are special to Leah. This family includes the domestic ferret. For much of Leah's childhood, her mother kept ferrets as pets, and rescues. Leah and I had ferrets in our house until just before Ellawyn was born. They can be a bit of work to care for and in our small apartment of the time, there wasn't room for a ferret cage and a crib at the same time, so they went to live a the mother's place. Since that time all the ferrets have passed on, and we all seem to have "kicked the weasel habit". However, as any on here who keep ferrets can attest, they are really a hard habit to break and ferret people tend to be a interesting lot until themselves. As a matter of fact, like many families of Harry Potter fans, we have spent some time determining our Hogwarts houses. Ellawyn is still too young, but Jared is all about Ravenclaw, I am so Gryffindor it hurts, and Leah, well she is easy. She is all Hufflepuff, whose token is a badger and are summed up in a quote that Jared coined...

"Ahhh...you think we're cute, that's nice....RRRRAAAAAAAAARRRRRR"
