the greatest rainbow i ever saw was at my college, which was situated on a hillside looking directly across the entire length of a valley in the catskill mountains. one day my friend jonah and i walked out of the cafeteria to see a full triple arch stretching from mountain to mountain across the valley. two full rainbows topped with a thick band of indigo. and, just like you said, the world stopped. the campus came to a halt while everyone found a spot to just gaze out in wonder. finally, after about ten minutes, my friend and i realized we were late for environmental science class, so we started walking. by the time we got to the science building, we were fifteen minutes late for class, but it turned out not to matter as we saw the entire building emptied out onto the front pavillion, and our professors standing out there saying are you seeing this???.

there are people in this world who know how to deal with wonder.

Yesterday evening (6:30 to 7:30) was my horse riding lesson. Since there was rain (and a bit of thunder), we were riding in one of the indoor arenas. At some point, midway through the lesson, I noticed that the sun was out but I could still hear rain thrumming on the metal roof. I kept peeking out the entryway to see the bright sun with rain falling down as we rode around the arena. Finally, after exiting, I'm heading back to my car, wondering if there was a rainbow (but not looking around yet), when someone points across the outdoor arenas and says, "hey, look at that." And there it was, this huge rainbow stretching across the horizon and doubled on one end. I lamented my lack of camera before I remembered my cell phone has one built in and my cell phone? Was in my pocket. After taking several (surprisingly decent) pictures, and setting on to the background on my phone, I watched rainbow until it had mostly faded before actually heading home. Even then, I noticed someone sitting by her car taking pictures ( ... )

I was at a Barnes & Noble once, & there were two rainbows coming out after a storm-- one very strong, the other fainter. There were people, including employees, who were going over to look out the large windows, & i was able to watch until i had to leave.

The idea of musicians & other artists "being born" is interesting... I like reading your musings. :)
