Potomac Celtic Festival....first the heat...then the rain...

Jun 22, 2008 22:11

Last Saturday, June 14, we attended Potomac Celtic Festival. It started as the previous weekend had been, at Maryland Faerie Festival. A threat of extreme heat. And then things went down hill. But we "weathered" it and survived. Thankful that it could have been much worse but wasn't. And for some of the crafts people, it was ( Read more... )

Interesting to hear the perspective from an event in another area. I hated to miss Potomac this year, but in February I committed to perform all five weekends at VARF. We ran from May 17 to June 15 and according to longtimers there, this was by far the worst weather the faire has ever contended with. We were hit by major thunderstorms 3 out of 5 weekends, and had a midweek incident involving direct lightning strikes and what may have been a tornado or may have been just some bas^ss straight winds over 70 mph.

On the Saturday you are describing, we only got hit by one wave of the system before closing, but it was enough to force the ground crew to drop the tent where all our musical instruments were stored. You should have seen my husband schlepping my Very Large Harp up the hill at top speed, only to have to vault the fence at the top because the vendor gate was still closed.

I love your picture stories! And hey, the greenman hanging in your booth is exactly the one we have hanging behind our bed as the "headboard." :-)

I love the selection you chose of John Sosknowsky's work: I'll google it, but if you know where I can get that, drop a url here if you get a minnit.

Glad you didn't melt in the rain!

On their website is a link for their music.
Sozra Jewelry

Strangely enough, I can't remember which song that is, but he has all the link to Mp3s on there.

Oh, and regarding your friend expecting triplets....perhaps she's just heard DuRant pere et fils perfoming "Eat Bertha's Mussels" at MDRF once too often:

A lady came to Bertha's who wanted a daughter or son:
The doctor had said, with a shake of the head, that she couldn't have either one.
She ate a plate of mussels, then went home to her husband dear--
She tuned up his creweth, and I'll tell you the truth: They had triplets the very same year!

Lori here, of "the natural triplets".

It has been years since I heard Bertha's Mussels, but that is as good a guess as any!

Dave and I like to blame our 2.5 yo daughter, Rowan. At the time, we were living down at the Florida Renaissance Faire in a 36' Winnebago. Before we went to bed each night, Rowan loved to bounce on our tummies to emphasize the fact that she was not ready for bed yet. We claim that she bounced on my tummy once too many times before I found out I was pregnant, causing the egg to split multiple times.

No pics of HMT on your Rennie tour?

For shame, man. FOR SHAME!

Ahhhhh...mmmmmmmm....nope.

No offense. I don't actually Know anyone who works at HMT. The pictures are of the people, not just the shop. Of course if that is were you work, maybe there will be a picture of you there someday. I'll try not to show it to any authorities ;')

Of course, it's not just the folks I know either. Its just whom I happen to take a shot of. So there was no pic of
House of Musical Traditions, nor of KJ Craftworks, nor of Maggie Sansone, or even of Potomac Leather & Wolfstone Kilts who not only are friends but the vendor coordinators.

Yeah, HMT is where The Missus & I work. I was doing a stagehand call that day, but she was there.

That reminds me, I need to email Potomac Leather.
