4. Name a film that you’ve seen more than 10 times:

Moonstruck (1987) - I have probably seen this movie more times than cookies I’ve baked.  With the exception of a single scene (which Norman Jewison himself said was a filler) it’s the single most perfect film - humor, drama, love - it has it all.  There isn’t a single day where I don’t quote at least one line from it.

Holiday (1938) - A Katharine Hepburn classic - one I think is highly rated.

The Philadelphia Story (1940) - ANOTHER classic, also starring Katharine Hepburn, also written by Phillip Barry.  It’s brilliant, romantic, witty and just a sheer marvel of writing - the whole time the film’s going on you’re so busy focusing on the Hepburn/Stewart relationship without realizing that the whole time you should be focused on the Hepburn/Grant relationship.

Notorious (1946) - Famous for having the longest on-screen kiss (for the time), there’s some sort of plot about plutonium or uranium or something (and I’ve seen it COUNTLESS times) but the main story is about Ingrid Bergman’s reformed Alicia, daughter of a Nazi sympathizer and notorious ‘fallen woman’ turned spy and handler, the jaded Cary Grant who pushes her into the arms of another man (the ever charming Claude Raine).  Even though it’s 65  years old, it still stings when it shows us how cruel we are to those we love.

Vertigo (1958) - It’s beautiful, it’s dark, it’s twisted and it was my inspiration to move to San Francisco.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) - I hated this movie as a kid, but the older I got the more I understood how sad it truly was.  Also - Hushabye Mountain & Doll on a Music Box are some of the most beautiful songs written in  the English language.

Soapdish (1991) - One of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen, and it’s even funnier when you’ve watched soaps your entire life, and it’s the best after you’ve worked on one and realized it’s not that far from the truth.  It also explains why when I’m excited and talking with my friend David my first reaction is to be all Sally Fields and go: “David! David! David! David!”

Silence of the Lambs (1991) - Dark, creepy and dear lord, forgive me for saying this but epic-ly romantic.  Yeah, I have problems.

So I Married an Ax Murderer (1993) - So totally underrated.  I watch this every time I pack or unpack; I watch this when I’m sad, or bored, or busy or a million other reasons. “Woman, wo-man, woaaaaaah man!”

Sense & Sensibility (1995) - It’s ‘cause I’m a romantic and I love when Edward returns to Elinor and Emma Thompson does that little sobby gasp when she goes: “So, so you’re not married?”.  Also? deadpan Hugh Laurie!

Forget Paris (1995) - The newest addition to my list! From the way it’s structured - to the actual suspense as to if Mickey and Ellen will get back together - it’s just a mature love story told honestly, starring Billy Crystal and a severely underrated Debra Winger.  If you haven’t seen it, just netflix it - the scene with the bird stuck to the head alone is worth it!
