Title: Bolt of Blue [The Good Wife]
Rating: PG
Ship: Alicia/Will
Disclaimer: Not mine, never was.

Summary: Will remembers the little things

---

Will Gardner remembers, very clearly, the moment he realized he was in love with Alicia Cavanaugh.  This is funny to him, in that sad, not really very funny, kind of way, because Will Gardner isn't a 'remembering' kind of man.  He forgets his own birthday sometimes, not to mention his parents anniversary, and he almost missed his cousin Steve's wedding a few years ago which wouldn't have been so bad if he wasn't the best man and didn't have to spend $2,000+ on last minute airfare to get to St. Louis.

He's forgotten almost every important date, every key event - but he remembers this.  It was a  Friday night - it was fall - it was 1993.  This was before Thanksgiving because he remembers feeling guilty being out with Alicia.  Her hair was curly then - long and down her back.  Her hands were up and it was dark - they were out dancing, or, more specifically, she was dancing and he was just watching her.  It was someone's birthday, maybe her roommate's or maybe his? Either way, they had agreed to forego the library for a night of social interaction and PBRs and jello shots and bad decisions.

They even put on their grown up clothes.  That was the first sign that Will may have been in trouble, when he showed up at her place to walk her over to the bar and she was dressed in something other than the jeans and sweatshirts she usually raced around campus in.  To be honest, he liked her in the jeans and sweatshirts... He liked her even more when she woke up late and would have to borrow one of his t-shirts as she raced out of bed and to class.  But this night, she was in some kind of dress.  And heels.  He didn't think he'd ever seen her in heels before that night.  Now he can't remember the last time she'd been without her black pumps that announced her before she rounded a corner.

She had been content to just dance around him, until the song started and she grabbed his hands and pulled him to the centre of the crowded floor.  She said something - but he couldn't hear.  So she repeated herself, but again, went unheard.  She then grabbed his shirt and leaned up close to his ear and shouted "This is my favorite song!".  He remembers smiling but now can't remember if it was because her hair tickled his nose or if he was just charmed by her awful taste in music.  She let go of his shirt and put her hands in the air and began singing along loudly while dancing around.

She looked like an idiot.

That was the exact moment he realized he loved Alicia Cavanaugh and probably always would.

Sometimes, when he sees her across the glass-paned hallways or in the elevator he wonders if she still dances like an idiot.  Or even likes that song.  Or even remembers who she was, back when she was Alicia Cavanaugh and had curly hair.
