What Do Geeks Do on the 4th of July?

...go to the mall, of course. ^^;;

So, yes. Jason and I went to the mall today to play some DDR. He still kicks my ass six ways to Sunday. We had fun. ^_^ Also ended up going in the bookstore (big surprise there, ne?). Bought a bunch of manga. I shall now fangirl mercilessly. ^_^ Cut for spoilers, and to save your sanity.

Flame of Rekka volume 12

Y'know, Domon is really starting to grow on me. Not that I ever hated him, but I find myself rather liking him now. His love for Fuuko is just adorable, and I love his rivalry-friendship with Rekka. Also, Mikegami? Is most spiffy. I really wonder what he's going to do with this guy, now that he's found the one who (apparently) murdered his sister. Assuming he defeats him, what then? He's been all about revenge since his first appearance. So, I just wonder what they'll do with him, if he vanquishes this guy. Also...does every shounen-fighting title have to have a weird old man who is somehow powerful/informed/etc? 'Cause this guy's just a bit odd. Though, from the looks of things, he might be one of Rekka's other dragons, so that would explain a bit. But still.

Another thing...I was looking online, earlier, and found out that Rekka is 33 volumes long. O_o I thought it was a bit more than half that. Wow. What is it with me and long shounen titles, anyway? I've got Rekka, RK, YGO....and I have no idea how long Bleach is, but I think it's long, too.

Fullmetal Alchemist volume 2

More Hagaren! w00t! Yeah, I've already read the fan scanslations, but I was still really happy to find this one. <3 I'm so in love with this series, it's not even funny. This volume had the 'Mustang is useless in the rain' bit, which always amused me. And we get Hughes in this volume! Yay! And the omake at the end always amuses me. ^_^

Gravitation volume 12

Duuuuude. Yes, that's my initial reaction. ^^;; So, so much love for this volume. The Yuki/Shu dynamic was lovely, and I liked the progress they made. Though, at first glance, it may seem they ended up right where they started, I think things are more normal between them now....if that makes any sense. ^^;; Also, Ryuichi's actions and motivations rather surprised me. Though, not in a bad way. And it was nice to see Shu getting all passionate about his music again. It seems like it's been a while since he did...too much drama elsewhere, I guess.

Overall, I'm a bit sad to see it end, but at the same time...it's not a bad ending. It wasn't too final, but at the same time, there was closure...that's the kind of ending that I like.

Favorite scenes: Yuki trying to clobber K, saying that no one can kidnap Shu without his permission. Yuki standing at the back of the concert hall, motioning to Shu to find his note in the papers he was holding. The bit at the end, where they're arguing like usual, but somehow it feels more like the friendly arguing that lovers do, rather than an actual fight.

Rurouni Kenshin volume 16

Poor Soujiro. Sure, I knew his story, but you can't help but feel sorry for the little guy. Nice fight (but then, they all are). And we got to start the fight with Shishio in this volume. Yay! Reading the manga is totally rekindling my love for this series. <3 Also, it shouldn't be much longer before we get to the Jinchuu arc. I can hardly wait! Plus, the art makes me squee. I love this series!

Saiyuki volume 9

End of the Kami-sama arc, and thus more stuff that I've never seen animated (Was the Kami-sama arc ever animated? I've no idea.). Kami-sama was a rather...odd character. I liked how Goku brought the gang out of their funk while playing mahjong. He showed some real maturity in this volume. Also, it was fun to watch the guys fight, using teamwork and all. And that bit at the end, with Ni? Made me go 'The hell?!' I mean, I know he's a creepy bastard, but still...makes me wonder. As usual, art is lovely. Am happily awaiting the next volume....which is actually Reload, volume 1, I think.

Yuugiou, Duelist Kingdom volume 6

Did I mention how much I still love Yuugiou? 'Cause I really, really do. <3 Nice dueling, and some nice character bits. Loved the bit with Honda and Bakura (both Yami and omote) sneaking around the castle. Also, Bakura asking Yugi if he could have the fake Millennium Eye he got in his soup? Ridiculously adorable, for some reason. I think I just tend to see geekery as cuteness, sometimes. ^^;;

And, just as we were about ready to go, what did we see when we looked out the window? It was pouring down rain. And, of course, I didn't have an umbrella. So, we got soaked going out to the car. And again getting out, when we got home. Not too fun. =P

Overall, a nice day. I had fun, and I got a bunch of good manga while I was at it...I've got no complaints. ^_^
