Freaking Deer

Dude, if life could stop kicking me in the ass, that'd be awesome. >_>

Okay, so yesterday pretty much sucked. First off, it's a long work week due to Thanksgiving being next week. I have to work through Saturday, which is always a bit of a drag. This is made worse by the fact that I've been half sick all week. Not properly sick or anything...just that weird, nebulous kind of sick where you feel like crap, but you can't quite put your finger on why. Less specific symptoms, more general crappy feelings. Bleh. So, that sucks. I felt worse yesterday than I had all week, so I just kind of huddled in my chair at work and waited for my shift to end. Got through my paperwork and such, but it was hard.

Now, this would be a reasonably bad day already, right? Oh, but it gets worse. See, I'm driving home in the middle of the night, like I always do...and I hit a deer. I hit a freaking deer! Been driving 23 years and never hit anything, and now this. Stupid thing was just standing there, right in the middle of the highway. And, of course, I didn't see him until I was right up on him. And by then it was too late. I hit my brakes, but I couldn't stop in time. So I hit him. Thankfully, he must have been off-center, though I couldn't tell by looking. Because he pretty much just hit my front left corner, then bounced off. Didn't hit the windshield, thank God.

I wasn't hurt, thankfully, and my car was drivable, so I drove the rest of the way home. Which wasn't far; I was just outside my exit when it happened. So I got back into town, and went home. When I went to get out of the car, my driver side door wouldn't open. Well, it opened a little, but not all the way. I was afraid I'd break something, so I didn't try to force it. I just climbed out the passenger side. (And hurt my back in the process. =P)

I left Mom a note, so she could start talking to the insurance people and seeing about getting it fixed. I talked with her about it when I got up this afternoon. Luckily, our insurance will cover the repairs. And, best of all, the deductible is only $50. I was kind of worried that it might not be covered, and that I'd have to pay for it all out of pocket. I haven't got oodles of cash to blow, anyway, and with the holidays coming up, I really didn't want to have to spend that kind of money. So, just paying $50 isn't bad at all.

The worst part will be waiting to get it fixed. Mom says we should go around and get several estimates to give the insurance company, so we have to get it looked at a few times. Then, we'll have to see when we can get an appointment at whichever shop we end up choosing. And then, who knows how long it'll take them to fix it. Mom guessed it'd take at least a couple of weeks, which was kind of what I'd expected. Still, it sucks.

And I'm stuck driving my brother's Mustang in the interim. Ugh. I really don't like driving it. It just feels weird; the brakes feel funny, and it sits so low to the ground, it's like sitting in a bucket and trying to drive. Oh, and I think the CD player might be busted. Rich said he thought it worked, but when I tried to stick a disk in it today, it wouldn't take it. I didn't have time to fight with it, so maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow. But if not, I'll be stuck with the lousy FM channels we get in this area. (Yeah, bit of a music snob, here. I want my music!)

...So, yeah. Yesterday was not fun. =P
