For those of you who don't know, I a randomly enthused coin collector. In other words, whenever I see something I like that I can eventually afford, I don't hesitate long before getting it.
Sometimes I should hesitate just a little bit longer, at least just long enough to do further research into that which I will be doing some investing.
I recently made a couple of purchases of what I thought to be "errors" on the new George Washington dollar coins. This coin has the words "E pluribus unum", "In God We Trust", and the mint mark and year on the edge of the coin. Well, there are thousands of these coins on Ebay being marketed as "errors" when they, apparantly, aren't. Apparantly, the "norm" is that the words should be upright when the face of the coin is facing up and that they should upside down when flipped. Those coins on which the opposite occurs are being labeled as "errors" when, in fact, they most probably will soon be classified as "Type 2"--in other words, different but not an error.
On the other hand, I anticipate being the proud adoptive father of a "Godless dollar"--one which has no lettering whatsoever on the rim--by week's end. :)
Yay! I can't wait for it to arrive!
