Author Notes: A Gen fic, about River and Mal ; Haven’t written Firefly in so long but here it goes. Feedback is helpful! Let me know what you guys think. Loose definition of alibi - Law. the defense by an accused person of having been elsewhere at the time an alleged offense was committed. ; took alibi to mean a defense, Mal and the crew defending River from blue hands.
They've been running for a very long time. One long year on Serenity, traveling from each corner of the 'verse to the next corner.
But the blue hands finally catch up to Mal's sweet heart.
They board the ship (though Mal's not sure how they get on) and the fight begins. Mal's always been a shoot first, ask questions later type of guy. A heart of stone that only warms for the cool steel of Serenity (and many a certain Companion but that has yet to be proven).
They hole up in Wash's control center, before them the wide open space. The metal door is the only thing standing between them and the enemy. But not for long. Those blue hands arn't like anything they've faced before.
They breach the door. Just the two of them and River shrieks, tucked behind Simon and Kaylee both nervously holding weapons. Wash and Zoe in front of them, each equipped. Jayne's got Vera tight in his grip. Mal cocks the shotgun as they enter raising it to their hearts.
All ready to make the last stand.
"We've been looking for you" they chant in cool whispers, like the ghosts in River's head. The voices finally speak so everyone can hear them.
"I don't think we've met before. I'd remember a pretty face like yours" Mal jests with the gun. The sarcasm in his voice is crisp and to the point. No need for subtlety now.
"You've boarded the wrong ship, my friend. I think you've outstayed your welcome." The two men only smile in return.
"River, come" they say, but she stays firmly tucked behind their small line of defense.
They go to open the briefcase in their hands and pull out a glowing blue stick. Before Mal can fire a shot there's a loud bang and the next thing he knows the room goes black.
----
He wakes up in the infirmary, not heaven or hell like he thinks. River sits patiently by his side. He can hear Jayne groaning to the left oh him and the quite voices of Wash, Zoe and Kaylee. Mal sits up, he sees his right leg bandaged up along with his arm. Must have been one hell of a fight.
"Capt'n." Kaylee says, as the first besides River to notice their risen Captain.
"What happened?"
Kaylee looks around for someone to help her answer the question, as she's not quite sure even she remembers.
"Me" River's quite voice doesn't sound like it did before. No riddles, just answers and Mal's not sure he understands.
"We're not quite sure what happened but the next thing we knew there was a burst of, black light, yourself and Jayne hit the floor pretty hard being the closest. And well they just disappeared capt'n. I've never seen anything like it." Kayle talks quickly.
Mal lays back down. Whatever happened they are gone and for now he and his crew can rest easy.
