whole lot of nothing

My feet hurt. But I made it home. I didn't find anyone to cover for me on Sunday, so it looks like I'll have to go in this weekend too. I'm just counting the days until school let's out so I can quit...
Today was insanely slow. There were people there, but it was all children on field trips. No tourists actually looking to have a keepsake. I made 1 sale today. And I felt awful once I gave it to them. It was a little girl, and I overheard her mother on the phone talking about how they were going to the hospital once they were finished. The girl had a band-aid on her face, and the mother asked me to not include it in the picture. The mother told me about how much her daughter loved Barney. And while I was drawing it, the girl kept asking "where's Barney? She's not drawing Barney!" But...
I couldn't do it.
Not because I don't like Barney or anything, mind you. I loved Barney myself as a girl. But I just didn't have the confidence to draw something I had no idea to draw and had never done before. Anything I would have drawn wouldn't have done good old Barney any justice. So I just drew the faceshot. They were in a hurry to leave. I had to break open every roll of change I had, but they told me to keep it and they left. I stood there feeling bad with 3 dollars in my hand for a couple minutes. I felt like I failed as an artist.
Then I had (another) whitetrash-type family come in. This one also wanted me to draw their baby. So I tried. RIGHT when I finished the picture the mom asks, "is there any way you could move the eyes closer together?"; completely disreguarding the fact it was drawn in permanent marker. Then she tells me, "I don't know, it doesn't really look like her". WELL NO SHIT, ALL BABIES LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME. What the hell do you want me to do.
They gave me the "well we'll come back later and blahblah" but of course they didn't. I didn't want to draw for them anyway.

On the bus ride home these Japanese tourists were lost. I must have looked pretty knowledgable/non-threatening, because they asked me a lot about where to go. The lady had such a thick accent, she asked for Nordstrom and it came out as UEDOSUTOROMU. I was like... what. But then I understood, and told them when/where to go. They thanked me so much when they got off, and then they tapped the window where I was sitting and smiled and waved goodbye. Even the kid. It was so cute. Japanese people are awesome. I was so tempted to respond to their questions in the good old moon language, but I wasn't confidenent enough in my skills... story of my life. :(

Just had some PF Chang's spicy chicken noodle soup. I LOVE THIS STUFF SO BAD AKJSDAS

omgyay, job hell
