Almost Ready To Go

I have 50,377 words, but I don't see the "verify" widget up on the NaNo page yet. Will still have to pay for some minutes on board.

I got interested in this old movie on TCM this morning (Mom almost always has it on), it's called "Penguin Pool Murder," based on a novel of the same name, made in 1932 -- and most of the main characters are famous COMEDIC actors in dramatic roles (in those days, actors just acted, they didn't get shoved into boxes). But what caught my eye initially was, in the opening scenes, we see a school field trip, and the kids are as diverse as any modern school! White kids, Jewish kids, black kids, even an Asian boy -- and here I thought "Christmas Story" was inaccurate on that count!

We'll probably leave before the end. Mom is fussing around as usual.

She bought a Kindle Fire, in the hopes it's easier for her. Apparently, unlike my Kindle, it requires an additional doohickey to get the wireless connection -- or so the folks at Best Buy were trying to sell us. I figured Mom was confused enough without an additional $50 (she was already confused by the carrying case and the screen protector), so showed her how to use it on her own wireless at home. If it does need extra for the 3G, we'll deal with that later -- but I don't understand why it doesn't come on board, like the Kindle Keyboard does. All I do is turn it on and it works, no matter where I am, including at work, where I KNOW there's no Internet hot spots (certainly no FREE ones).

ANYWAY, maybe I don't know as much as I think (certainly at home I'm completely at the mercy of my wife).

technology, cruise, vacation
