Living Without Internet

Nov 21, 2010 18:21

Wow, I haven't been online since we entered the Big Disney Bubble! There is life outside the computer, unbelievable as that might sound! But yes, the long trip is ended and tomorrow VERY early we will be winging home at last to our cats and doggie.

Saturday at the airport was interesting. About an hour and a half before our flight, there came an announcement that our flight was "still delayed," and it seemed we weren't going to be leaving on that flight in time to make our connection in Houston. A little wrangling, and before we knew it, we were booked on a non-stop on another airline and we had to pack it up and hasten across the Phoenix airport to Terminal 4 (we had been in 2), then we were up and away. I wrote a lot on the plane, which is good, because, seriously, this is the first time I've opened the machine to do anything more than just uploading pictures (I managed a paragraph one day, I think the day we went to the Animal Kingdom).

But before a more detailed spamming of my journal (which will probably come sometime tomorrow), here is :

Day 73, Squirrel!:

This little fellow was scampering about the grounds in Epcot, which technically we went to on Sunday, but I'll select photos for each "day" from the week's worth, because I did get a LOT of great shots at the Animal Kingdom and some good ones at Epcot and a few nice ones at the Magic Kingdom, and a few from Nassau and Castaway Cay.

Anyway, there my mom was admiring all the man-made wonders of Epcot Center while Barb and I marveled at the little squirrel who was holding something (an acorn?) in his little paws and sitting up not three feet from us before he scampered off again.

BTW, Epcot IS splendid, and we got to go on the last day of the 15th Annual Food & Wine Tasting event, and it was MARVELOUS. We managed to get a taste or two from nearly everywhere, and I got to sample some amazingly splendid dessert wine from Germany that retailed in the park for about $60 a bottle. Whew. Couldn't bring that one home. Am bringing home a bottle of lovely-looking rum liqueur from Nassau, which I am eager to try. It's wrapped carefully in layers of bubble wrap in the middle of the suitcase. Two years ago I managed to get a bottle of Jamaican rum home that way, and it worked, so...

The Disney bubble: There were, literally, NO wi-fi connections anywhere NEAR our resort. Nothing our wi-fi could even attempt to log onto. There was a wired modem, but since we were in the room a few hours a night, it wasn't worth plugging in, so we didn't. On board ship, it was $25 an hour.

I am a bit sunburned from uneven sun block application done on Castaway Cay. Spent the day lounging on the beach reading, then taking a dip in the clear, clear, CLEAR waters whenever I got too hot. I DID put on sunscreen, but missed some spots, therefore the tops of my feet are splotchy, there's a sunburn patch on one knee, and the edges of my arms and neckline are lobsteresque. Oops.

There is the bare bones of my first update in over a week. Tomorrow will be more updated. I don't THINK I'll be able to catch up on my flist (much as I'd wish to), so if there's anything terribly important I missed (like adorable cat pictures), please let me know!

Words: 13,345. Don't think I'll manage to "win" this year...
