Why can't people send out notice for meetings in advance? Like, I'm just asking for a few hours. A day would be ideal, but give me more than 35 minutes' notice. I tend to take a late lunch. This is the second meeting I've missed in as many weeks because I didn't get notice until just before, and was on my lunch break at the time. I could have scheduled my lunch around it if I had known! Frickin' pisses me off.
Anyway, as I wrote the rest of this, it became an update, albeit a somewhat pissy one, so
here ya go:
Doesn't help that I already was back in a pissy mood starting yesterday. See, I lost my badge (still have the clip; the snap undid itself and the badge fell off) and so I had to fill out paperwork for a temporary one. The guy was... not mean, but not nice either. I was already uncomfortable about it, and then he couldn't spell Mike's name and got all snorty with me about it. Granted, it's not an easy name, but after I spelled it for him four times he still couldn't get it and eventually I had to write it down, at which point he's like, "oh, J!" Yeah, fricking J you moron, I only said it four times already!
Then there was Magic, where I was already kinda in a bad mood, and I'm still not comfortable with these people (I like them, but I don't know them well), and I lost 3 consecutive games without them being anywhere close before saying screw it and going home. At least we're opening new packs next week. Then I played a very brief amount of WoW (at least I only died once and got rez'd and got the mission done, but I still didn't really like my party, nor was I having much fun) before going to sleep. I crashed into bed at about 11 and, being really tired, fell asleep immediately. See night before last I got very little sleep. I guess just the little extra caffeine I had kept me awake and this time I would have realized it was just the caffeine if I'd thought about it, but instead I lost track of time. So yeah, tired, fell asleep. Forgot to turn the air down, though... luckily it didn't interrupt my sleep too much, the way it sometimes would, but I was kinda sweaty and didn't sleep as well during the 4-7 time block as I normally would have.
And then there's been today, where I woke up later than I planned (at least I was having a good hair day!) then came into work to have to deal with the paperwork of getting a temp badge again since mine hasn't been found. They recommend waiting about 3 days before filling out the paperwork to get a new permenant one, since that's about the time frame in which they get turned in). I think mine dropped between the building and my car, though, and it's been windy, so I don't have much hope of it turning up. And so when I got there, it was the same guy I dealt with yesterday. Thinking this might be a good thing, since he dealt with me yesterday and we might be able to forgo the whole calling of a co-worker to come and sign me in, since he saw my co-worker do that yesterday and could theoretically sign it himself. Not so, apparently. In fact, not only was that not the case, he didn't recognize me at all (or pretended not to) such that when I walked up and said, "hey, I lost my badge yesterday, you helped me get a temporary one" he looked at me like I was out of my mind, and like he was terribly confused, and was like, "so you're saying you work for Freescale and forgot your badge?" Of course, in a very accusatory voice and like I was wasting his time by not just saying it in the first place. And I'm thinking, "no, it fell off, and I told you this yesterday, so lay off the hostility." But I just sighed and answered yes, and we went through the whole process, and I had to spell Mike's name again, and he was annoyed that myself (and most people who sign in this way) don't know their department number. I told him that was because nobody ever uses the department number (except for internal bureaucratic reasons, though I didn't say that) and therefore we don't have any reason to know it. He's like, "well you should know it anyway, right?" To which I'm like, "if you say so." I hate having people act like disapproving authority figures when they're people hired by my company and really ought to be polite. Basically, he made me feel like a criminal. I shouldn't have to explain or defend myself to anyone but teachers, parents, cops, or my boss. And I'm (mostly) done with teachers, I'm far away from my parents, I thankfully don't have much contact with cops, and my boss is a nice guy. So I shouldn't have to! Not to a security guard or a co-worker or a customer service person or what have you. As Cricketts would say, "Get off me!" So there.
And since this has become a (somewhat ranty) update, let me drop back a couple weekends and recap. Recap!
Friday... I came home and needed to clean. I didn't clean much. I played WoW instead. Jason got here... I don't really remember what we did. I think I was tired. I believe that was the night we went to the store to buy groceries--mostly ingredients for pizza. Jason made the dough while I did toppings. We had a pizza made with half-white half-whole wheat crust; garlic & herb sauce; four cheeses; roughly half tomato, basil, and feta; and roughly half pepperoni (Jenn's!), bell peppers (red, orange, and green), and onion. Roughly because the halves kinda overlapped, cuz we had a lot of toppings. The pizza was more like a mound than flat when we put it in, but it cooked just perfectly in my opinion and ended up in a nice thick single layer. So delicious! Good with beer, too :) We watched The Incredibles (which I recently purchased along with I <3 Huckabees and Garden State for $25 total @ Blockbuster), then went to bed. The first half of the next day (Saturday) was pancakes for breakfast, cleaning, WoW for Jason and finishing the second book of Eddings' The Elenium for me. Then... I had a party! I wasn't sure how many people would be there, since my email was acting up and I got no RSVPs though people sent them. So we got to The County Line for some good BBQ, and in all we were 12 people! Or was it 13? Lessee... I'm so bad with names... myself, Jason, Kyle, Erin, Greg, David, Jonathan, Patrick (Jonathan's brother), Sarah, Todd, the girl he brought whose name I forgot, and one other person. So yeah, 12, unless I forgot someone. Was Ben there? I totally don't remember.
Anyway, after that we went back to my place for what was totally a weekend game night. There, we had even more people. Christi and David, for two. There were more, too, but it's been too long now and I can't remember! Anyway, I made something chocolate. I don't know whether to call it cake or brownies or what. It was more like cake. It's actually a cake that's supposed to make its own pudding underneath. I screwed up the recipe at some point--started out making 1.5 times the recipe and when I was done it was really thick, like one giant self-adhesive lump of batter. I spread that in the bottom of the glass casserole dish I was using, but it clearly wasn't enough. So I made that same mixture again and it was much more liquidy, like regular cake batter. I just poured it right on top and mixed it up with the batter already in the pan. So yeah, ended up making 3x the recipe, and good thing since we didn't have all that much left over! And I wanted some left over, of course ;D Either everyone liked it or they were lying to make me feel better. I loved it. It was especially good with vanilla ice cream! All in all, the night went really well. Which made me exceedingly happy, since I pretty much never plan events or host things. Made me feel like I can actually plan things that work, and that I have friends, and all that good stuff. Yay!
Next day was Sunday (this was a really busy weekend!) and Carly was having brunch! So we went to her place for quiche, mimosas (we ran up against the Texas liquor laws when trying to buy champagne before noon), fruit, bread and butter and honey and jam, tabouli, and of course cool people and good conversation. That was a lot of fun too! Then we went home and took a nap. Actually, come to think of it, I think it was Sunday that we went to the store and made pizza. I don't think we ate dinner Friday. Anyway, woke up at 6 or so for more WoW/reading then store and eventually dinner/movie at 12:30am. Yeah, that's right. Our sleeping schedule got weird because of that long nap! Then on Monday (it being Labor Day and all), we got up and lolled around before going to Kyle and Erin's new place for games (we played Power Grid for the first time, or at least the first "step" of the game (which I think should be a "phase" and the subdivisions of those should be "steps")) and hot dogs/hamburgers. 'Twas fun. Jason had to take off, but I stayed for a while, then went home eventually and played some WoW.
Then there was the rest of that week, with "body sculpting" on Wednesday, no game night (my Saturday party and K&E's party were sufficient), Magic (which I already wrote about, last week's and this week's), and guild night Thursday and Friday. I used Olaaf to get him up to speed. Fun! Also sometime during that week, Barbera decided to add me to her LJ friends list, since she always saw me referred to on other's pages anyway (e.g. "go see
wildrice13's journal for what we did this weekend"), so hi Barbara!
Then came Saturday, when I went first to Carly's place (was late) to pick up her and Xochil, then on to near San Marcos, where we had a little BBQ--to celebrate Adri's birthday, which is actually today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Then we went for a swim in the river. Swam upstream a ways (man, that was tiring, but it was a good workout. felt really good to me!) to get to a rope swing. I took my first swing using the foot loop at the bottom, and it was pretty good. My second swing... I didn't use the bottom loop, and lost my grip a little earlier than I wanted to. Not too early to be safe as far as water depth, but since the drop was unexpected, I managed to hit my finger on one of the rope's knots, or something. My hand hurt. A lot. I wasn't sure exactly what happened, but the pain was enough to have a kinda numbing effect. I lifted my right hand out of the water and saw... my middle finger was kinda sideways. But it looked like it was wrong at the knuckle, so (I figured I was in enough pain that a little more wouldn't even be noticeable) I pushed on it, and it made a popping noise and went straight again. So I think it must've been dislocated. It got a very pretty purple color at the knuckles and swelled up like a sausage link :/ Ouch. I also stepped on something sharp getting into the river after that (from the bank this time, not a rope swing, thankyouverymuch) so I had a puncture in my foot, just behind my big toe. Oi, not a good health day, all in all. But fun nevertheless! We then drove back to Carly's place, where I showered since I had a change of clothes and we were just going back downtown anyway. She gave me ice for my finger, too. Saw the beginning of The English Patient while I was there, too, with slightly fuzzy TV reception (that changed depending where you stood, hehe). Then we headed to the Slam Aid show where Adri was reading. Good stuff! Lots of people were political... which at a normal slam might bug me a bit, but which I thought was pretty appropriate for this. And they were mostly very good, too. As always, I didn't agree with every poem, but hell, it's free speech! And usually good anyway, from an artistic standpoint. Afterwards we were going to go to Lovejoy's, but we couldn't find a parking spot, so we went to Katz's. Adri and Pete eventually got there too, though there was a bit of missed communication due to cell phones at first. Had fried pickles and a reuben (very unusual for me!). Went home.
Sunday... mostly sleep and WoW. Read some Harry Potter too (borrowed the most recent book from Kurt).
Monday, visited with G&D after working out and eating leftover 3-cheese chicken primavera (Lean Cuisine! ;) ). TiVo watching ensued. Played a little WoW, but went to bed before very long. Also, Carol found my livejournal earlier Monday. Hi Carol! If you decided to read this far, hehe :P Then was game night on Tuesday at the Wansrath's. Played Ticket to Ride (fun! I won for once! used a better strategy this time) and some game where you hire yetis to fling snowballs at animal snowboarders. Odd and mostly luck, but fun. Doug, Teresa, Teresa's sister (Christine?) and Lucas were there. Peggy, too; it was only the second time I've met her, though people talk about her and Igor sometimes. Yesterday and today I've already described.
Whew! That's it for the update. I really ought to write more often, but work's been more busy lately. That's a good thing, I guess. I feel like I know what I'm doing and that it's useful, at least. So that's a plus. Actually been making me feel better about my workday! Now if only I could wake myself up earlier and get here closer to when I'd like to.
Tonight is another guild night. It'll depend on who's on as to which character I'll use; where I'd best fit in a group. Both my chars are DPS anyway, but still. Looking forward to it. I love our guild, and the night elf quests and stuff are a lot of fun. Okay, that's all. And I'm in a better mood now, too! Imagine that :) Whoa, some guy I've never seen before just walked down my "cubicle aisle" tromping like a bull. Crazy. Oh well. Ciao!
