Mom decided the best way to start showing me Singapore was on a overview bus tour. Good idea. Here are some of the things we saw.
This was in an island in the middle of the street. It was like a huge red Christmas tree in metal with cutouts of people on it.
This is the Merlion, the symbol of Singapore. Singapore got it's name(it was formerly called Temasec) when a long time ago, a prince from India arrived on the Island, thought he saw a lion and named the place Singapore, from Sing - lion, and Pore -city. So this has a lion's head and a fish body because it is an island so there are a lot of fish.
The fountain spits, as all good fountains do(I mean spit, not into the ocean), into the bay where Singapore river flows into the ocean.
Across the Singapore river from the Merlion is the performing arts center. It looks like the top of an old style microphone, besides each of those little things shades a window.
This is a bridge across the Singapore River, we had just crossed over it before getting to the merlion. I was trying to show the arches under the bridge.
This is a huge casino tourist attraction that is almost finished. It has over 1,000 hotel rooms and also touristy things like casinos. The construction in front will be shopping for tourists. The boat on top was deposited there by an amazing tidal wave that did no damage to the city and deposited that huge ship on top of those three buildings. The owners realizing how expensive it would be to remove, decided to plant palm trees on it and build swimming pools and bars there. You guess which parts are true.
