Language
This is my first post. I guess that since Layah isn't here I don't have someone to bounce all my language thoughts off of. Here they are for today.
I don't know if I get too picky about language sometimes, or are some people just unaware of finer distinctions. In class today we had to translate the sentence, "Abraham Lincoln was the most loved president, after George Washington." I translated it the best I could (there is no passive in ASL) as roughly, "People love presidents, George Washington first, Abraham Lincoln second." The professor came over to watch our group sign our translations. I told her I wasn't happy with mine because the original sentence was about Lincoln, but my sentence was about people loving presidents. I'm not sure whether she didn't see the difference I was talking about, or if she didn't think it was important or if she didn't think it was important for my level of skill. It's taken me all afternoon to put my dissatisfaction with her response this coherently. Now I think I'll have to go talk to her about it.
On a really exciting note we were doing voice to sign and sign to voice translations and I could pretty much do them, compared to last year when I felt barely able to understand. I guess the Immersion program paid off.
