Trip to Singapore
When My kids Max and Layah, were overseas they wrote travel blogs that were very interesting. I will try to follow in their footsteps and do likewise.
I left for Singapore, with my parents, on Thursday just after midnight(Okay, technically it was Friday already, but it felt like Thursday). My dad is working, with a colleague to develop a wearable artificial kidney(see the kidney, and my dad, at
www.awak.com ) and my mom and I are sightseeing and taking it easy. We will be in Singapore for 2 weeks.
The flight to Hong Kong was 15 hours. There was enough foot room, but the space between the rows of seats was so close that you couldn't actually stand up to get out of your seat. I was worried what would happen when the people in front leaned their seats back. It turns out the backs don't lean, the seats slide forward. That could have been fine, but the back orientation didn't change and I ended up using my pillow to fill in the space at the bottom of my back and crumpling my jacket to lean my head against.
At about 1:30 the stewardesses started serving a meal. I thought maybe a snack, or possibly breakfast, but no - dinner! We landed in in Hong Kong and needed to change planes. I figured, it was the the same airlines, shouldn't be any problem or too far of a walk - wrong! First we went through airport security. They were very concerned about my mom's blood testing equipment(she's diabetic) . They wanted a letter from her doctor, failing that, they wanted a detailed description of what it was and how many needles it included. I know you may think otherwise, but too many lancets could enable you to take over an airplane by pricking people into submission. Meanwhile I had forgotten about the half filled water bottle in my carry-on. No problem, security didn't notice it.
The fact that it was the same airlines also was no help. The plane to Singapore was about a 10 minute walk - with both my parents being pushed by airport workers. That trip was only 3 hours. We finally arrived in Singapore and went through customs, which consisted of someone looking at our passports.
When we picked up the luggage (notice, AFTER we went through customs) my parents' suitcase had one wheel smashed in. With the help of the wheelchair pusher, I went to the Lost & Found to get it taken care of, where I was reprimanded for not having my passport, “on my person.” The suitcase was taken care of very easily through the concierge at the hotel.
We arrived at the hotel, checked in, took a nap, and had a nice dinner at the free drinks and hor d'oeuvre reception, then went to bed for the night.
