1. Being a Geography major, I think about maps quite a bit. One thing that has come to mind recently is mapping the spatial extent of routers. Let me explain: Query all the major routers in Gainesville to determine their average throughput, and then geocode that information into a raster dataset. Take that raster and interpolate between points to fill in the holes, and then project that under a map of the city. Hillshade this raster (or even do some fancier 3D effects!) and you'd have a map of the city's internet usage, expressed topographically.
2. I've been working on the house I'll be living in for the next year or more. There's a side door coming out of a nook attached to the kitchen, that until this morning has been full of boxes. I moved the boxes so as to attempt to make the passage navigable, thereby providing access to a set of steps that might soon have a compost pile next to it. While playing with the lock on the doors, I soon realized the door is nailed shut.
Really, guys, wtf? For real. Who lived here, anyways? There's better ways to define defensible space than nailing a building closed.
