Checking In (backdated to....whenever.)
A young girl cautiously crept up the hallways of the dormitory building, almost as if expecting something to jump out at her at any minute. Her blue eyes darted about, taking in every detail as she slowly advanced. Few students were in the hallway, but those who saw her stared at her curiously and whispered amongst themselves. Katelyn wondered what they said, and whether she would be accepted in this strange new place. The thought that it was mere gossip about an unfamiliar face, or them questioning why she was wearing the green and yellow plaid skirt of a different school never entering her mind.
Glancing down at the paper in her hand, she compared the markings on the page to those above the door frames. "One Oh Four," she repeated aloud as she found the match. Folding the note and stuffing it in the small sack that she carried slung over a shoulder, she took a deep breath and opened the door, hoping for the best.
Looking around, the room was filled with things but not people. She similarly took in all of the details of this new place, almost memorizing them. "Miss Roommate is not here," she said, almost disappointed. After so many years alone with nothing but her animal companions, she was rather liking the fact that she now had so many different people to interact with. Much more so than the difficulties this new urban jungle presented for her. Always the optimist, she did not allow her mind to dwell on such thoughts.
The notes that the faculty had given her told her, among other things, that this was to be her new home and that she would be sharing it with another student. She closed the door behind her, wondering which of the two beds was to be hers. One was neatly made with blankets and pillows, the other piled high with various books. Taking a wild guess, she set the simple sack down and curled up in the empty bed for a short catnap.
