The partial nudity did little to bother a girl once raised by forest nymphs, and who now stripped before her classmates twice daily while in the locker rooms for Swordfighting class. Instead, she seemed rather excited about something - too excitied to even notice such details.
"I got you a present!" Katelyn's cheerful voice rang out as she handed the box over to the drowsy girl. She beamed with pride, hoping Ginny would like her bangles as much as the ones in the store, though with such similar designs it would be somewhat hard to tell the difference. If anything Katelyn had spent more effort on her reproductions than the original craftsman, as small and intricate woodcarvings accompanied the brightly painted flowers.
Only when Ginny did not immediately respond with like enthusiasm did Katelyn realize what was going on. "You're...still sleeping?" Her mood began to calm somewhat as she worried that she might have disturbed her friend. "I didn't know...I just thought....I can come back later, if you'd like?"
"I hope they're okay," Katelyn said as she watched the redhead open her present. "I...couldn't remember what colors all the flowers were. So! I just painted ones, I thought you might like?"
It was hard to read Ginny's reactions, as she was tired and looked maybe a little sad as well. "I, wanted to get you a hat, too," she confessed, awkwardly glancing away. No matter how finely crafted, the girl couldn't think of handmade gift being as nice as something fancy bought from the store. Such things seemed ordinary to her. "I didn't know which one you liked, though," Katelyn continued. "But I hope, maybe, the bracelet things are good?"
Kate gave her friend a slight squeeze with those reassuring words. "I'm so glad," she said with a small, happy smile on her face. "It's just...you looked, maybe, a little sad?" She then shrugged it off, hoping that it was nothing. "So!" Her smile widened considerably. "Want to do anything fun, since it's your birthday? What would you like?"
"Oh!" Kate's eyes widened with the excitement of a grand idea. "That's what we should do!" She immediately sprang up from where she sat on the bed. "We should get all of your friends. And then we should all go out and eat a lunch somewhere!"
Just when the girl suggested to have lunch, the door opened and Ginny's roommate entered the room. She carried a heavy book with her, while her flying carpet carried a box on it. She ignored Ginny - as usual - but when her eyes fell on Kate, Vanya gave her a look filled with hatred, though she said nothing. Just two deep blue eyes boring down at the young Slayer for a full minute before Vanya turned away and moved to her bed.
"I see you've finally woken up," she said in an emotionless - even uninterested - voice to Ginny.
Katelyn said nothing. She had nothing to say to what had to be the cruelest person she had ever met, a girl hell-bent on making everyone else's life utterly miserable. The naive but well-meaning brunette thought it best to remain silent rather than sink to Vanya's level and say horrible things meant only to hurt, even if a small part of her felt that Vanya deserved it for how she had been treated not too long ago.
Her actions spoke for her. Blue eyes once locked into a stare with the necromancer softened as they turned towards her friend. Kate nodded, and reached out to accept Ginny's hand.
"Oh yes, please, go." Vanya rolled her eyes as she placed the heavy book on her bed. "Maybe spending some time with people might break through that craziness that has taken a hold over you and plunged you into melancholy and depression, not to mention restless nights and wasting your daytime with sleep. They might even make you smile! Dear God, no, not smiling!"
Her hands free again, Vanya lifted the box from her flying carpet, put it on one of the unused desks and removed the box to reveal an electric kettle.
"That's an electric kettle," she said in a flat voice, quite a contrast with her sarcasm from only a minute ago. "It heats up water. Should make things easier for when either of us wants to make tea. It's easy enough that even someone who has been deprived of all the benefits of these modern times can learn how to use it."
"Of course I know how this works, idiot," Vanya muttered loud enough that the two girls could hear it. "I'm not as technological retarded as you are. Tell me, are your parents by any chance strayed Amnish? They absolutely refuse all the benefits of modern technology as well and think they still live somewhere in the seventeenth century or so."
The Seer shook her head in disgust, pulled up a pack of chocolate chips and sat down while grumbling darkly to herself, "Last time I ever tried to do something sort of nice. That Rei girl was just wrong. I suppose I'll just throw the present away and be the bitch like everyone wants me to be."
"Yes, please, leave," Vanya snapped back. "And stay away as well. You don't sleep during the nights anyway and I'd love to have a night of sleep without being disturbed by you. So get out then. Go get your lunch you so richly deserve. And don't forget to drag that puppy with you."
She opened her book and lifted it up, hiding behind it to cut off all sound and sight from the girl who at the moment annoyed her enough that it made her feel sick.
