John Travolta in drag, married to Christopher Walkin .... what's not to love about Hairspray?
Just got back from watching a preview screening of Hairspray ... I definitely recommend it to folks.
It was funny, irreverent and really quite charming. The cast was 95% all star and the newbies definitely matched up well. It stars John Travolta as Edna, Christopher Walkin as Wilbur, Michelle Peiffer as, um, don't remember the character's name, but she plays a bitch, Queen Latiffa is her usual saucy self, Allison Janney (CJ from West Wing) plays a straight laced 60's mom, etc etc. The two guys that played the dads on Seinfeld were in it, as well as Amanda Burns (or Byrnes).
All in all it was a really cute flick and I think I will likely buy it when it eventually comes out on DVD. Yes, it is a musical, but it is fun and peppy so the temp keeps up nicely.
So yeah, just wanted to share, lol. I don't know when it is scheduled for release, but I recommend folks check it out when it hits the theatres.
