I am a man.
But I almost never think about that fact.
I am white.
But I almost never think about that fact.
That is part of the luxury and privilege of the privileged group of white men.
To me, man is a category with little meaning.
I wouldn't feel that way if it weren't a privileged group.

What if that category invaded every inch of my mind, and every moment in time?
Then that meaningless category would grow teeth, and an oppressive meaning.
If one of my categories presented itself to me everywhere I went, in everyone I met,
it would not be easy to forget, to escape.

The effect multiplies as more of my categories attack me.

But this is not discrimination; this is just one of its many effects.
