Thursday night I had a really good dream...
I dreamt I was sitting in the back of a pick up driving along a dusty dirt road with 7 other kids. Yes I said kids because in the dream I was a year or so out of high school and I know this because in the dream Des was a senior. So in the back of said pick up truck was me, Des, (the following are people I do not know in real life) Julie, Jenny, Thomas, Joshua, & Will.
I will take a moment to describe each because the we're so vivid in my imagination that I can't help but wonder if these people exist somewhere in the world and perhaps we all shared this dream last thursday night! (hey it could happen) Like I said Des was a senior and just had finished high school and Julie was her friend from school therefore they both were about 18.
Julie was a waif-like blonde with big blue eyes surrounded in entirely too much black eye liner which in turn made her eyes look sad and quite small. Jenny was a brunette and all of the age of 6. Her hair was a mass of brown curls and peering out from her unruly mane were equally brown eyes.
Thomas was most memorable. He was a good head shorter than I with neatly trimmed brown hair and bright blue eyes. He wore a determined express and his eyes reflected the wisdom of an 80 year old not a 12 year old. His frame was strong but thin and he carried himself with confidence most men never achieve.
Then equally contrasting in appearance was Joshua. A true tow head but eyes just as blue and his expression was pure innocence which one would expect of an 8 year old. His build was much softer and rounded and it was apparent he would never be a tall man.
Will was the eldest of the boys. At least 6' tall or more with broad shoulders, light brown hair, and hazely golden eyes and a shyness that seemed almost painful. He never looked anyone in the eye. At first glance you would think him a full grown man of his early twenties.
So here we were the lot of us on the back up this truck and we we're headed out to work for the farmer who was driving. Looking around at my companions a strange sense of wrong came over me. I shot a look over at Will and said "We've got to get off!" He could tell by my expression that I was completely serious and without question he gathered the smaller ones to him. As the truck slowed down to turn down a heavily tree shaded road Will scooped up Jenny and Joshua and with the rest of us following his lead jumped off the truck bed. I looked back once I was safe on the ground and notice the truck continued on with the farmer unaware he had lost his passengers.
We ran in the opposite direction through thick woods and as we finally emerged breathless through a clearing Jenny finally spoke up. "What are we doing?"
I told her I had a bad feeling. Something was wrong about that man and we needed to get away. I couldn't explain it but I knew it was so. Jenny gave me an annoyed look but Des checked it with one of her commanding looks and Jenny said no more. Only Thomas still gave me a questioning look but when he spoke it was only to ask what the plan was now.
All our tummies were empty and that farmer had promised us dinner. I looked at Thomas and said we'd go into town and find dinner.

We we're all walking through the local town market and Joshua and Jenny put on the usual show of "look at the cute kids entertain while the others pilfer the pantry" Thomas and I loaded our book bags with anything that didn't have to be cooked. WIll filled his large pant pockets with what he could and we sneaked out the back door as the kind people patted Jenny and Joshua on the heads and even bought them a lollipop. How sweet I thought. I'm not sure where Julie and Des were during all this.

I was walking down a dirt road looking down at my socks noticing how the red clay had stained them. Yes I was in the south. Then I noticed everyone had stopped and Joshua, who was in front of me was staring off in the distance to the right where an old abandoned farm house stodd. Thomas was on the porch checking the door, knocking loudly calling for anyone who might be inside. Thomas and I were the unspoken co-captains of our little group. It was always either he or I leading the way. When he was satisfied that all was well we each tried out different windows and the back door until we found the kitchen window unlocked in the back. The window was small and Jenny with a boost from Will was able to shimmy through and unlock the back door. Peering in the house I could tell it hadn't been used in over a decade.

Jenny and I were in the kitchen of the farm house which was now free of cobwebs and dust. I could see out the kitchen window to where Joshua and Will were in the lawn which was now mowed and free of brush tossing a ball back and forth. Julie was at the table talking about she knew a way to make some quick money for groceries. I knew that she meant the "house of ill repute" that stood on the outskirts of town and I got so angry at her for ever thinking of such a thing. She just rolled her eyes at me and said "It wouldn't be the first time" Jenny looking up from her drawing confused and asked me what she was talking about and I distracted her with questions about what she learned at school.

I was coming home from work (Geiger) and I could see Thomas in the field planting something just before dusk. When I reached the house Will and Blaine (cameo appearance) were on the front porch playing D & D. Blaine was now a member of our little family. I walked up and gave them a kiss on the cheek then went inside to start dinner and found that Joshua was already making spaghetti (again). It was our staple food. Jenny came running into the kitchen to give me a hug and show me her school work as the phone rang. It was Des ...
Then I woke up
