Jeezus, what a day.
Wisconsin legislators finally passed the Walker budget, and the entire city of Madison is up in arms. Protesting started tonight, and is set to continue through Saturday.
It's tough--I know perfectly well that the great state of Wisconsin will still be standing tomorrow morning when I wake up, and will probably be around a year from now when the recall business wraps itself up, but... well, I gotta wonder how much damage one guy can do in a year.
(And yes, the short answer is, I think Walker's cuts are damaging to the state and the economy, and the moral of the general public.)
I'll tell you one thing, though: Ayn Rand is positively spinning in her grave over this conflict. The very idea that the people would protest for collective bargaining with a "brute" like Walker (who finds it necessary to deliver public speeches with an entire SWAT team's worth of snipers on the roofs around him for "security") is the summary of everything she claims to hate in Atlas Shrugged. Therefore, I kind of wonder how the "objectivists" on the far right are justifying this to themselves, and anyone who wants to give me useful feedback on that is welcome to do so.
So there, I guess my months of laborous novel-reading paid off somehow.
