Frivolous Things
* Dresses - secondhand Emporio Armani (LBD) and Dior (matte brown with fanciful corsety lacing and cute back pocket), and a new halter, backless wrap dress from Miss Sixty.
* Dior Addict lipgloss - very very shimmery and slightly orange.
Am a little irrational about dresses currently due to the influence of summer. However, the shapeless smock trend is still going strong for some inexplicable reason, so it was very hard to find many dresses that I would actually want to wear and pay for. Am slightly obsessed with fit and leanness of silhouette.
Less Frivolous Things
* Books! Respite from uni = opportunity to read.
1. The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins
I just finished this book yesterday and it is absolutely wonderful. Personally, I am baffled at the people who accuse Dawkins of being 'aggressive' - unless if clarity of thought is by its nature aggressive. Besides, he is a very, very witty (sometimes scathing, sometimes not) man.
Anyhow, the remarkable thing is not that I enjoyed the book. I expected to enjoy it. I have not read D's books before but from what I have read of his article for TheTimes and some of his interviews, his way of thinking is very close to my own. It is not so amazing that I would enjoy the work of an author with whom I feel an affinity. The amazing thing is that this is one of those very rare books whose arguments are actually convincing, that have made me change my mind on points where we would have been in disagreement. I think this book destroyed what was left of my agnosticism and 'belief in belief'. It's a little heavy to go into at the moment (what with it being 10:30am and ergo, early in the morning). But yes. It is definitely worth reading.
2. Foucault's Pendulum - Umberto Eco
Started this morning. So far, so wonderful.
3. On the Road - Jack Kerouac
Am planning (in a highly unstructured manner) a holiday with the polak where it is very warm and we can lie in the sun and read. Currently Sicily or Naples seem the prime candidates.
