It was a while before he was able to identify the emotion. Loss. Regret. Sorrow. Shockwave had never felt these before, and the way his spark was twisting in its casing, he never wanted to again. The feeling had started the day he’d come home from work to find their quarters bereft of any trace of Ratchet. Of course, he didn’t realise at the time what it meant. It only dawned on him years later. When he wasn’t able to do anything about it.
Every time he’d seen Ratchet’s name mentioned in a report about Autobot activity, his spark clenched. He’d lost the mech, but did he have to be so vividly reminded of his presence? The medic had risen quickly through the Autobot ranks, partly due to Decepticon influence, to the rank of Chief Medical Officer. Of course, the fact that the last Decepticon raid had deactivated the previous CMO meant nothing.
Crushing the datapad containing the latest reports in his hand, Shockwave dropped the remains on the floor, stalking out of the command center. At that precise moment, he could not have cared less if Megatron himself was in the room to see his display of emotion. Though, thankfully, the only mechs around were drones, sparkless and non-sentient. The Autobots were going to leave Cybertron in search of new sources of energy. And Ratchet’s name was on the roster of mechs due to be leaving with Optimus Prime.
“Shockwave!”
“What is your command, Megatron?”
“You are to stay behind. I entrust Cybertron to you, Shockwave.”
“Fear not Megatron. Cybertron shall remain as you leave it.” Once Megatron turned back to Starscream and Soundwave, Shockwave began to make preparations. That he wouldn’t be leaving irritated him, but he wouldn’t let it show. The search wouldn’t take long, and Shockwave was sure the Decepticons would be victorious.
He didn’t realise he would suffer his loss all over again.
