Feedback makes friends.  Flames dealt with by the masters of paranoia and fire, Red Alert and Inferno.

At first, he couldn’t understand why he’d been assigned to guard the Autobots ‘secret weapon’; a brilliant inventor.  But after the first time he’d had to defend the mech against Decepticons, he understood.  Wheeljack was brilliant, and though he sided with the Autobots, it didn’t stop the Decepticons from trying to steal whatever he was working on.

“Frag mech, what was that?” Ironhide heaved himself up from the floor where he’d landed when Wheeljack’s… whatever… had blown up after he had thrown it at the Decepticons.
“That?  Oh, that was nothing.” Wheeljack’s headfins flashed cheerfully as he rummaged through the debris looking for his missing arm.
“Nothing?” Ironhide echoed him in disbelief.
“Yeah, that was just the prototype, if they’d have gotten the real thing, we wouldn’t still be here.  Ah ha!” Wheeljack pulled his mangled arm out of the wreckage and held it aloft, looking at it critically.  “Ratchet’s going to deactivate me.”

They lay huddled together in the bolthole at Wheeljack’s laboratory.  The Decepticons were rummaging through all his experiments, and Ironhide could feel the outrage simmering in Wheeljack.  He reached across and lay a reassuring hand on the inventor’s arm.  Wheeljack shuffled a little closer, taking the comfort that Ironhide offered.  The Decepticons wouldn’t be able to detect them here, not with the shielding Wheeljack had installed, but it meant that they were trapped until the Decepticons decided to leave.

Ironhide was beginning to think that this was a regular occurrence.  He’d pulled Wheeljack out of his laboratory, and they’d sped away, Decepticons chasing them.  Knowing they couldn’t outrun Seekers, Ironhide had suggested they hole up somewhere.  And Wheeljack had just the place.

Several cubes of high grade later, Ironhide wasn’t actually all that surprised to find himself enthusiastically kissing Wheeljack.  Nor was he particularly surprised to realise that Wheeljack was kissing him back just as enthusiastically.  Maybe good things did come from bad situations after all.
