Last night we had a pretty helatious thunderstorm that conveniently waited to start until after Greg and I left the gym and picked up our take-out. Shortly thereafter, the power went out forcing us to shovel Chinese into our mouths in the dark - at least until Greg scrounged up a pair of candles and candlesticks, and by candlesticks I mean the type Mean Mr. Mustard would use to bludgeon someone with in the drawing room.
It was a bit scary there for a while, though I was mostly worried about my car parked out on the street which really should have been home safe in the garage had I not wanted to spend time with my honey so bad. Fortunately there was no hail. Mom called after the worst of it passed, worried about me and suggested that perhaps it might be wise to stay put overnight due to downed trees and power lines in the area. Way to go, Mom, encouraging me to spend the night at my boyfriend's house! Probably the first and last time I'll ever hear that. Actually, I made it home just fine around 9pm and first thing this morning, learned how the rest of Greg's evening fared after I left:
The power was out until way after 3am. At about 10:30pm, I could stand the sound of the cricket in the basement no more. I got out of bed, lit a candle and went downstairs. Walking in candle light, I followed the sound of the chirping which led to underneath the water heater. I then found a wire and fished out the little bas$#@d. He was disoriented and raced right towards me. Using my Bond sense, I found I could use the hot water instructions (taped to the side of the hot water heater) as a weapon. My foe was promptly smooshed. I let out a cheer of triumph and walked back upstairs with only candle light to guide me to my bed. As I lay there completely engulfed in the glory of my victory and wishing the ceiling fan was working, I hear from the basement, "chirp, chirp." It turns out my smooshed foe had an accomplice that was looking for revenge. His friend did not have near the annoying volume in his chirp, so I tried to go back to sleep. About 3:45am, a bright light interrupted my already light sleep. The power was restored. I turned the ceiling fan on and the light off. It was smooth sailing after that.
He sounds pretty chipper for not getting much sleep. I need to get that man some boric acid - and soon!
