Just felt the need to acknowledge the new year in some way. Like the Grinch with Christmas, try as I might to stop it 2007 has arrived anyway. It doesn't seem that long ago we were all worried about Y2K but over half a decade has already passed since then.
We were to have met James and Lien at an Italian restaurant for dinner New Year's Eve but the first snowfall of the season put the kibosh on those plans and they came over for dinner this afternoon instead. Bruce fell asleep around 9:00 last night while I stayed up reading a veterinarian biography so thoughtfully received as a Christmas gift until just past midnight.
Back to assuming a normal work routine again tomorrow though the students don't return until Monday next. We have a new college president starting and already she's taken the television out of the lobby and turned the storm shelter into a (TV-less) employee break room. I already work in a windowless environment and refuse to eat my lunch in bunker so it looks like I'll be taking a lot more walks at noon, weather permitting. Goodbye Young & the Restless, good day sunshine. It'll be interesting to see what other changes, if any, she makes right off the bat.
My only New Year's resolution is to end it contented one way or another. My life has needed a kick in the pants for a long time now and it finally seems to be starting to happen. Slowly but surely. Steady as she goes. One day at a time. A fresh start. Have I missed any clichés?
