one of these things first

Since Shannon and I both had the day off we decided to embark on a field trip out to Village Pointe. Armed with a map, she said she felt like we were tourists which we sort of were. I didn't see much to my liking but that wasn't really the point (the pointe?). I did come away with a cute yellow pair of Italian made sandals for $7.00 on clearance so the trip wasn't in vain though getting out of there via the one access road escape route was maddening.

By now I'd normally have compiled a list of top 10 favorite albums released this year but I hesitate to do so quite yet because although I have quite a few (26 or so), I don't feel like most have been properly broken in. In the running for top slots at present would be Kicking Television, Get Behind Me Satan, Devils & Dust and Guero based on comfort level. And I had love/hate relationship with Bright Eyes' Wide Awake, It's Morning but somehow it grew on me like a bad fungus. Things are always subject to change, though ... witness last year's favorites of 2004 as compared to now:

  1. Sandbox: The Music of Mark Sandman
  2. Wilco ~ A Ghost is Born
  3. Luna ~ Rendezvous
  4. U2 ~ How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
  5. Rilo Kiley ~ More Adventurous
  6. Lila Downs ~ One Blood : Una Sangre
  7. Franz Ferdinand ~ Franz Ferdinand
  8. Loretta Lynn ~ Van Lear Rose
  9. Morrissey ~ You Are the Quarry
  10. Tilly and the Wall ~ Wild Like Children

I was exposed to a lot of new music, especially late in the year, thanks to compilations, gifts from friends, internet radio and SV. Let's hope the trend continues.

Speaking of trends, this would also be the time of year for resolutions. Officially I don't have any but unofficially, now that my calendar is wide open I'd like to :
  • talk less and listen more
  • spend more time with family and friends
  • make the library a better place for students (ie: live up to my degree)
  • become more involved in professional associations, local groups and volunteer organizations (ie: Humane Society)
  • exercise - my back will thank me in the morning
There are others of a more personal nature but it's getting late and I'm not prepared to tackle those at the moment. The key for me is keeping busy.
