I have but one humble proposal for today:
Do not declare this a national holiday. Don't celebrate this day as though it had special significance. A man died; nothing more. Don't give that death a martyr's worth. And do not bury him where the world can see what we have done. Instead place him in an unmarked grave, undisclosed and gone. Erase him from history, give him no legacy.
In that way, write history so that it says: Without a doubt, this old man is dead, but what the worms did with him afterwards is of no concern. He is dirt under our feet, and we shall give no second glance. Do not make him a hero, do not make him a martyr. Let him be an old man who died cowering in fear, a failure who could not change the world.
