It’s been a long time since I last updated, and actually a bit has happened. So, where to start?
I left off in Oregon. Well, it rained almost the whole time there. Everyday there was cloud cover and constant drizzle. The drizzle varied in intensity, but almost never stopped entirely. It was hard to stay dry without an umbrella. While Kelsie was in class, Jacob and I went out to look for one, both to have while we were there and to give to Kelsie because she didn’t even own one yet. She was in rain denial. Anyway, we could only find a couple, and they weren’t worth buying. That’s strange for Oregon, don’t you think? I’m sure the main problem was that we didn’t know where the shops were because we didn’t know where the hell we were going.
During the course of my week there, we made a couple outings to the coast and mountains. The first time we went to the coast, we almost got blown off into the sea. It was a wild day out there and very exciting. The best thing to do was stop and have a bowl of clam chowder, which we did. It was good.
The trip to the mountains was also surprising. We packed up our raincoats and planned to do some hiking, and our swimsuits to possibly hop in some hot springs. Well, the road to the springs was impassible because of a landslide. The side of the mountain had practically fallen onto the road. We did do some hiking, but not on any real hiking trails because we couldn’t find them. We ended up just stopping and getting out to walk around because a tree had fallen across the road and we couldn't drive any farther.
I developed a real addiction to chocolate chunk cookies at Safeway while I was there. Anytime I drank that week I developed an intense craving. These cookies were, in my eyes, some of the best cookies I had ever tasted, which I feel bad saying because they were grocery store cookies and not homemade. Still though, they were big and the perfect amount of chewy softness. I want one now.
This update is getting kind of long, isn’t it? I’ll finish up Oregon and leave the rest for another update.
One of the high points of the trip was seeing the Oregon Coast Aquarium. They had a great jellyfish collection, some cute sea mammals, and a realistic tide pool “petting zoo”. Plus, that day was a beautiful clear day, so the drive along the coast to get there was spectacular.
Overall, I had a great time there and I loved Oregon despite the rain. It just strengthened my love of seacoasts. A summer trip to Oregon is in order, although I don’t know for sure when I’ll be able to do that.
I think that's enough for now. A few things have happened since then, so I'll update again soon.
