LJ "Acceptable Content" Test Case - LJ draws a line

Jul 27, 2007 23:54

Last Saturday night, when I came online to try and catch up on lj after reading Deathly Hallows, I read some of the posts about lj's latest round of pissing off fandom by making their policies on acceptable content and underage porn about as clear as mud. After burr86 responces to this post by violet_quill and ari_o's test case most of my flist seemed to be feeling ( Read more... )

*shrugs* I didn't type it. Lj pulled it from my iTunes. That's how it was spelled when I downloaded the track.

Thank you for testing the waters. I'm probably too frustrated and upset to say anything more, but seriously, thanks. :)

all in all it's a fair and reasoned response, mainly dealing with what will definitely break their rules, which are of course based on laws that they did try to ignore for quite a long time.

mainly i find it amusing that lj abuse has to employ people to read harry potter porn and then decide whether it has significant literary merit.

Ah, sorry for the delete and repost, combining posts:

1. Do you know if it was answered anywhere if the content has to be on LJ itself? If you wrote a fic that was against their policies but posted it on your OWN website or on an archive and you posted to your LJ a link to it, is that in violation?

2. This makes me curious, If I submitted a snippet from a long story in which Voldemort ages a 5 yr old up to approx 18, and rapes her, would that be in violation?

3. Stupid as it is, would it violate their policies if everyone writing such fics just smacked on a LJ-disclaimer at the end that said: "And then 18-yr old character X woke up and realised that it was just a dream".

1. I have no idea. That's why I didn't put a direct link to the altered fic on greatestjournal.

2.Actually, I'm pretty sure that would be fine, because it is "relevant part of a larger plot".

3. Well, since my fic was fine when it was just a role-play, I'd say that might actually work.

This, this is what I really want to know. It doesn't affect me fic-wise personally (In that I think I only have one fic in which an underage character has sex) but I think it's the crux point that will determine how fandom moves forward - if we move everything or if we stay squatting for a while longer, testing other terrain, while moving fic elsewhere.

Can I quote your question on my LJ?

yeah you can use that question, rephrase, whatever. at this point though, i personally dont really care about the answer- almost all people on my Flist (eventhough with paid and permanent accounts) have snagged GJ accounts, some IJ and a few JF. Most are using Semagic to post to multiple accounts, which is making it easier to migrate to other services, since the content is being cross posted.
