Okay, nobody is allowed to make any cracks about how I should be using a mac right now. Two times within the last hour I have gotten the dreaded blue screen followed immediately by my computer rebooting itself. The error report once it reboots says that it has to do the IBM Error and Recovery program. Each time it crashed I was trying to move one folder full of stuff into another (trying to tidy up things). Anyway, my real concern is that when I open up files in MS word, all of the field codes are showing up instead of the page numbers and references (linked to Reference Manager 11 - the latest version that I installed a couple of weeks ago). Any file that I open in MS word has this problem. I'm waiting for Lee the computer guy to come by and take a look, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be worthwhile trying to restore system settings to some earlier date. The whole word/refmanager link started to go wonky right after my MP sent me back an edited version of one of my chapters. At that point the problem appeared to be a ghost version of my references file interfering with the actual file. There was also some notice like "reference fields have been changed." I have no idea what he did to my file (other than use track changes on it) before sending it back to me. I just want all my software to play nice like it was before! I don't want to be stuck using the lab computers to write my dissertation because I do my best work in the middle of the night and would hate to be chained to the lab! What to do?
