Oh, this was great! Jack sure was in fine form throughout LOL! The entire chapter highlighted the essence of who Jack and Ennis are in so many ways - both subtle and direct, and there were a lot of pivotal moments, too.

"Still do, but it's funny, don't seem so important now." Well, that's a kind of watershed in itself. They don't need Brokeback because they have the "real" power and are living it everyday. And could young boy Jack ever have believed that staying in Lightning Flat would be the stuff of his dreams? And I don't think either one of them could've imagined they'd be bantering (albeit mostly one-sided :)) about a young ranch hand's ass and what he'd be doing with it that night! How far they've come in one brief year, especially when compared to the 20 that came before.

When Ennis told Jack "twenty, twenty-five minutes" my heart about burst with happiness for him b/c I know that meant the world to him - another milestone- and I was equally happy for Ennis that the lunch (and the gifts!)went so well because I know how much that meant to him. Now, what in the world is our sweet devil up to? Thanks!

I love the pivotal moments in life. Sometimes we see them when they happen, and other times we don't recognise them until long afterwards. I didn't really plan this chapter, just drifted along with the characters and found out where they took me. Most enjoyable.
