Wow, what an update!zhouhua00January 26 2011, 15:54:22 UTC
So many things going on in this chapter I don't even know where to start.
1. About Aileen. It sounds like she is an old maid who doesn't have her chances in life. But then Ennis got drunk and they struck a relationship. What happened after their daughter was born? From your writing I could not judge if the daughter actually lived with Aileen or Ennis in her childhood. And then there is the mysterious incident that happened. I can't wait to find out more about Ennis' past.
2. The Chess play. I smiled to myself when Jack developed the smart plot to play chess with Ennis. I am actually surprised at Ennis' ability at playing the game. I mean, he is such a loner so who would he play against? Himself? I am sure he is not exactly on-line playing type. LOL!
3. Jack's business astute. I think Jack deserved all the credit as a shred businessman and the success of his business. I actually like his hand-off approach very well. So basically he is going what he is going at, and then hires the right people to do what they are good at. You can NOT be expert on everything and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
4. I am really astounded by Ennis' story - so he actually broke his engagement but did NOT even let Jack know about that? Talking about wasted chances! What the hell was he thinking about? And how could he have the nerve to blame Jack for HIS failure? He left Jack with the information that he is getting married, and NEVER informed him otherwise. So how could he expect Jack to figure out his new situation miraculously? And where the HELL was he when Jack went back the next summer and was humiliated by Aguirre because of HIM?
5. The fight between Lou and Ennis. This is just an exaggerated version of the Thanksgiving fight after the Jack Nasty incident, isn't it? Well I am amazed Lou had the nerve to badmouth his boss, who could throw him out at any second. If I were Jack I would fire that bigot immediately, as I would not tolerate such stupid, narrow-minded, discriminative behaviors on my farm.
6. “You're home now!” I have to say I am not expecting this, but I am deeply touched. What Jack told Ennis here is that he is not only Ennis' friend, but his FAMILY. I don't know if Ennis ever had a family beside his daughter, but he had one now. Of course they had tons of issues to work out, but it looks like they have a second chance now.
Overall I am very fascinated by your story. Can't wait for the next update.
