Yea! I’m in a good mood. I finally feel like I’m doing something. Up to this point, I’ve spent my time at Chico eating, sleeping, doing homework and going to class. And although I’m happy, I have to admit I don’t do much and my days can get monotonous, especially on Wednesdays and Fridays when I don’t have any classes (no, I don’t work 43 hours a week like Brad. I don’t work at all actually).
I did CASC for four years, was in Leadership in 8th grade and in Student Government senior year. So I figured I should get involved with AS in college to continue that stream. Sometimes it’s not always that easy to just know what to do and where to go. But things work out sometimes and thanks to my roommates I met Brandon. They met him at a dance club a few weeks ago and became fast friends. They discovered he lives on the 8th floor of our building. They kept talking about this really nice guy they met that night and finally I was introduced when he came to our room. We got to talking last weekend and he told me all the things he does here and said he’d drag me to all his meetings. So now I’m doing ROAD Crew, which is a program specifically for freshman to gear them towards running for an AS position and giving them an inside view of what goes on in AS. I went to my first meeting for that yesterday and it was really fun. There aren’t that many people, so I wasn’t overwhelmed (excellent). And today Brandon’s taking me to his SIFE meeting. I really couldn’t tell you what SIFE is other than it’s a big organization that’s privately funded and is more business oriented. Brandon’s a business major, so within SIFE he’s in a program that teaches 11-12 year olds how to write a business plan and become an entrepreneur. Or something like that. Apparently there’s a presentation group that is in charge of presenting all the programs to other organizations, basically the PR of SIFE. And Brandon’s really pushing for me to get into that, being that my major is Journalism with an option in Public Relations. It sounds way cool and I’m looking forward to it, although I may not be able to be a full fledged member of the presentation group until next year.
And to update last entry, things with me and Phil are great. We are excellent friends again, he stops by my room every once and a while to say hi, and I don’t feel weird going to his room for fear that his girlfriend will be there (he doesn’t want me to have anything to do with her). And he gives me plenty of attention.
I’m going home this weekend!!! I’m really excited. I’ve been home two weekends prior to this, but it was to have oral surgery and then a follow up appointment. And I didn’t really want to go either time. But for some reason this is different and I can’t wait. I need to see my kitty and visit both grandmas. One is in the hospital while the other is on around-the-clock supervision at home. And friends! Oh wonderful friends! Brianna’s back in CA and I need a big hug from Brittany, or perhaps she needs one from me. Either way, Santa Rosa beckons me. And if I get my act together and buy my Amtrak ticket, I’ll be in Davis the following weekend to see Katie and meet all the people she pays to hang out with her. (P.S. tell Claudia that she’s not alone in feeling overwhelmed by being an RA. My RA is frequently in a bad mood and has breakdowns she tries to cover up. And the 5th floor RA told me the job drives her to drink).
Another exciting aspect of my life is that we have TV in our room now. Whitney Hall doesn’t get cable, so if one wants TV in their room, they’d better invest in a set of good ol’ fashion rabbit ears and hope to pick up a few stations. It depends on the time of day and if the weather is good, but we can pick up about 10 channels. And the reception isn’t all that bad. So aside from liking this boy on my floor who knows me and says hi in the hall, but am otherwise convinced doesn’t know I exist, life is absolutely fabulous! And how does one go about posting pictures on this thing?? I think it’s high time I show a few photos of my roommates and other friends (yup, got a few of ‘em) like Amanda does. But I can’t show cool football photos because Chico doesn’t have a football team.
I'm off to read Desirable Daughters and take care of my sick roommate. A lovely Wednesday indeed.
