Fire Prevention
This week we are continuing to work on understanding fire safety and how to best plan for a fire should it occur. We began last week talking about what fire safety means to them and how to involve our families in a plan to keep everyone safe. We will go to an assembly put on by the fire department. The children will be bringing home a fire safety poster they made in literacy stations last week. Please ask them to share what they learned with you. Part of the job was to be able to tell what each picture represented on the poster. One of our English Language Arts standards is to be able to tell about a topic you have learned about.
Lookout for Literacy
Our 1st Journal
Another literacy job this past week was a mini lesson on Kindergarten Kid Writing. I sent a copy of the lesson home on Friday. This lesson describes the different types of kid writing you will see. At conference time I will share with you the developmental stages the children will go through and where your child is. I also wrote comments on their literacy contract about their first attempt at kid writing. They all worked very hard!!!
Math Matters
Sorting
Numeral Identification
We are working on sorting groups of things based on like and different characteristics. Last week I shared a big book entitled Sort It Out. This was an introduction to what sorting is all about. We have sorted things like fruit loops and attribute blocks. The children are discovering that they can make up their own rules for how they sort things out. You should have your child help out at home. They can sort laundry, toys and even their favorite cereal if it has different shapes and colors. See what they can do!
