I've read a lot ot articles, almost every single one I could find, on the life of Pavarotti lately. There is a lot one can say, a lot one can talk about. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert. I saw the man perform once at a gala event in Toronto - passed up many other chances to see him perform in numerous operas. Which in retrospect I suppose I should regret.
But I digress. The best quote, the best perspective, I've seen so far was written by Cate Kustanczi on the Toronto Wide website.
"Pavarotti wasn't on a mission; he didn't have grandiose ideas or visionary thinking. Pav was just Pav. He liked food, he drank wine, he ran off with his secretary.
And he had the greatest voice -and spirit -I've ever witnessed on a stage -any stage -ever."
I couldn't go without saying anything and I don't think I could put it better than Ms. Kustanczi.
So there you have it.
