Do people actually believe in the existence of soul mates anymore? Did such a notion ever actually exist? I don't know if I even believe in the traditional role of "love" and it's components ( Read more... )

I don't believe in a perfect match, but several good possibilities. But even those are hard to find.

This is true. It takes a lot of searching, for some a lifetime. And even then it remains a great risk. Because how do you know if the person you've chosen is a good possibility?

"Love" by itself - very simple definition. When you care for the person very strongly.

That, however, is different to being IN love. The summarised definition of that is when you care for them very strongly, with the addition of the romantic element.

(Note I think this is also a separate thing to the lust topic)

Yes, there is a grand difference between lust and love. Love is directed toward a specific person, with the other's best interests in mind. Lust is essentially selfish. Being horny, if you'll forgive my crass bluntness. Them that get these mixed are them that end in pain.
