Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it. The rest of you, just have happy holidays -- New Year's is coming up.
My mother fell again the other day. I found out about it when I got home from work. She does the readings for the daily Mass at the chapel of the Catholic hospital she lives near. She fell while going back to her pew. At least she was in a hospital at the time!
She fell on her face and may have a mild concussion -- she couldn't think straight and didn't have her Kaiser card (for her medical) or her cell phone with all our phone numbers in it with her so she spent a while at the hospital she fell at before she was transferred to a Kaiser hospital and contact was made with the family. They held her overnight for observation and released her the next evening.
I had already asked for Christmas off (which, on my shift, begins Christmas Eve). Righteous' college-age daughter spent the night with her after she was released. After I got up this afternoon (I worked until 7:30 this morning), I went over and spent the rest of the day with my mother.
She's stiff and sore but feeling a lot better. We went out to dinner and I took her to the grocery store, and then I drove around so we could look at people's holiday lights. We hung out for a while back at her place, then we went to midnight Mass at her parish. That started late so we got back around 1:15. Today (Christmas day) we'll pick her up around 12:15 to go to Righteous' house for Christmas. It will be small this year, but that's okay. She was just happy not to be alone on Christmas Eve (and, naturally, Christmas day).
