Families... what would we be without them?

Yes, totally quoting the duke of Wellington from The Young Victoria film with Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend…

Simply, this is Christmastide, and yes, I did write a little POTO oneshot for the occasion, with an Erik/Meg friendship, and don’t worry, next year, it will be Raoul/Christine fluffiness.

Aaaaaand… I’ve been thinking of Dracula’s vampire sisters’ backstory a lot lately.

Nope, not in the Christmas spirit at all.

I’ve seen a bit of fanfiction on those three, of course. There are many theories evolving around their origins, and one of them being that they are somehow related to Dracula.

I have to admit that this theory actually makes a crazy sort of sense. Not much detail is given about them in the book, to be honest: we know there’s one blonde and two brunettes, they’re said to be dressed like proper ladies (hello, Coppola!) and… the brunettes have features similar to Dracula’s.

Strange enough coincidence, so to say.

Furthermore, we have Professor Van Helsing going into Dracula’s castle near the book’s (anti-)climax, in order to kill the vampire sisters so they won’t be in the way while they’re all be busy with the Big Bad. And of course, if you know a bit about vampires (unless you’re Stephenie Meyer, of course), vampires sleep during the day in their coffins. And of course, if you know a bit about vampires (unless you’re Stephenie Meyer, of course), vampires sleep during the day in their coffins.

Now, the thing is, the vampire sisters seem to have their tombs within the catacombs of the castle.

All right, I know you’re all going to tell me: “So what? Big f***ing deal.” No, but seriously, doesn’t it seem a bit too convenient for the brides to have marked tombs and everything?

Obviously, the answer is that they’re related to Dracula somehow.

I’ve did a bit of research as I tried to find answers among the fandom. Some go from the practical answer and say they’re just peasant girls he “seduced” many years ago in the same way he “seduced” Lucy; some say the blonde leader is actually Countess Elizabeth Barthory, a descendent of the real Vlad Tepes and who has quite the gory story herself, which you can find here. The latter makes sense, I have to admit, and it’s rather interesting.

And the final theory, which is currently my headcanon, is that the blonde bride used to be Dracula’s wife in his human life, since she is the leader, and that the two brunettes are their daughters.

Creepy enough, so to say, since I’m pretty sure some of my readers will see incest here. But let’s face it, we’re talking about Dracula, already implied to be bisexual since he does flirt openly with Jonathan (not to sound homophobic… but the book was written in 1896, after all… and I’m pretty sure that Stoker could have had the Borgias in mind here, though it’s not a brother/sister matter anymore, but father/daughter(s)!).

Surprisingly enough, while roaming across the fanfiction, I haven’t seen anyone developing that high-potential theory. It’s a shame…

So that means it’s up to me, then?

More to come soon.
