It may not have been the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, but it probably makes the top twenty or thirty. The sky to the west was deep slate, blue-gray, like in a storm. The sky to the east had enough of a hole in the clouds that the entire west was lit up. It is always beautiful to see something lit against a gray sky, but this was everything. Every tree and building to the was was glowing. And it is winter so they were all brown and the beautiful gray-green of lichen. And the sun against them was so strong they were almost reflecting. I'm not describing it very well. Imagine every branch and twig of every tree shining, glowing, illuminated against the blue sky. And no one seemed to notice. What is wrong with people?
