HPB's Memorial Day sale of madness is over. It was 5 days...5 straight days of madness. I don't normally work that much in a row, so, yes, I know the rest of the working world does that all the time, but the rest of the working world also gets 2 days off on either end, which I do not. I have one day off tomorrow, then it's back in. But anyway...Saturday, the air conditioner at the front of the store, where the majority of us work, was running really hard, and loud. Then about 6ish, it makes this horrible crashing sound and quits. Then it starts in with this high pitched whine, which also quits after not too long. It's still broken, and they claim it'll be fixed tomorrow, but it's still hot in there, and I imagine it needs more work than can be accomplished in a few hours. Then tonight, the older brother of some SCREAMING child pulls our fire alarm at 9. By law, the fire department has to respond, and don't get me wrong, I love seeing the hot firemen, but seriously now. This is the THIRD time that alarm has been pulled by some kid since we moved into the building last September. I love my job. Really. But some days are harder than others. I didn't realize quite how burned out I was until I was one my way to work this afternoon and just started crying for no reason in the car. Then came the stressful day. I didn't get a single book shelved in the travel section, never mind the cart piled up in the backroom because the distribution center decided to send us two months worth of shipment this week. Hmm, maybe we could have used that BEFORE the giant sale??? ARGH.

12. The Black Swan--Mercedes Lackey

Based on the ballet Swan Lake, but told from the point of view of von Rothbart's daughter, Odile. Actually, I was torn between really, really excited find this book, and really sad, as I wanted to write the exact story in high school. All in all, it was well told, though the plot of the ballet doesn't start until the book is nearly over. Odette and Siegfried don't even meet until almost 300 pages in (it's a 400 page book). Maybe I'll write more about it tomorrow when I'm not so damn tired.
