my reading week reading

yesterday, my search for kant's groundwork for the metaphysics of morals, which i forgot back in res, brought me to the main branch of the ottawa public library. there, to my satisfaction, i found a book called "metaphysics of morals." it was only the next day, after procrastinating from reading the hefty book for a good while, that i learned that the "metaphysics of morals" is not to be confused with the "groundwork for the metaphysics of morals." now that i think about it, it makes sense. the real deal is built upon the groundwork. but i felt rather annoyed and a tiny bit self-pitying about my mistake.

anyway, just after i was enjoying the satisfaction of pulling that kant book of the shelf, in the spirit of avoiding work, not to mention, the spirit of avoiding dropping off job applications to french people because it's daunting and embarassing (i applied to stores in gatineau for summer jobs), i thought, hey why not check to see if dan savage's book about gay adoption is here. i'd read a great excerpt from it on amazon.com. the library didn't have it, but they did have a collection of his savage love sex advice columns. i picked the book up, intending to put it right back down, but ended up checking it out because it was so entertaining. in grade ten, i used to scorn people who tore out the savage love columns from the ottawa xpress, because they really only did it, i thought, to giggle at the graphic language. that's all i ever saw them do, anyway. but i now realize that dan savage is awesome. he's funny, brutally honest, smart, and he'll write about absolutely anything. and he's gay. i love this book.
