well, here we go again with another cartoon review of the year. some of these cartoons appeared in private eye, the spectator, and others. some didn't find a publisher in the short window of time a freelancer has to sell topical cartoons before the story lies flat on its back in the mortuary, having choked on its own vomit. or some other tortuous metaphor...
many of them relate to goings-on in britain -- apologies to any foreign readers who may not know what i'm going on about with one or two of these.
so, without further ado...
there've been so many extreme weather events in recent years that i can't even remember which one this referred to, but then again that's kind of the point of the cartoon...
the winter olympics gave an opportunity for one or two rather obvious analogies......
the greek economy went belly-up...
british tv viewers had a double treat in store...
while treats of a different variety hit the streets...
the times of london put its online edition behind a paywall...
boffins:
and would-be boffins:
labour lost the election, and a new, rather unlikely conservative-liberal coalition was formed...
shortly after brown's exit from number 10, the new 2012 olympic mascots were unveiled...
troubles abroad...
staying on foreign soil, the french banned the burkha from public spaces...
the new government's ideas began to take shape...
whilst the leader of an old government published his memoirs...
the government announced that they would be looking at whether or not students with special needs were always correctly diagnosed...
and the bbc persevered with its regionalisation programme...
labour voted in a new leader, and his brother sulked...
(probably should've had david holding the ball here, looking at it again..)
students were up in arms about the government's new tuition fees...
and then there was this...
the hard times ground on...
and bringing us bang up to date, here's one for the new year...
have a fab new year everyone, and pop by tomorrow for a bonus add-on to my review of 2010
