I think that I really must be getting old. I'm so tired after a little "vacation" to Florence to visit my family and Janet. It was pretty fun for the most part, but damn I'm tired.
On Thursday my dad drove my mom and me to Florence. We arrived in the beach house to a propane stove that was on way too hot, probably for a really long time. It was probably in the 80s when we opened the door. So my dad figured out how to turn it off and figured out that whoever rented it last didn't know what to do and left this dangerous situation.
The result was that the bedroom that Janet and I were sharing had tons of water condensation in it by the bed. We ended up moving the mattresses to the other corner of the room and sleeping on the floor. I don't think that was too good for my back or neck.
After settling in and waiting for Janet to arrive we went to my Aunt Diane's house with all but one of my mom's siblings and their families. A total of 18 people were there. It was way too loud and I found it incredibly exhausting. The food was good, but I really wasn't that hungry. After staying a few hours too long, we finally made it back to the beach house and eventually got to sleep.
Friday started when Janet and I got up early to drive to Eugene and go shopping. We ended up hitting the Valley River Center, House of Records, and Target. That was plenty enough. At the mall I got some good long-sleeve shirts out of it for a good price. Also, I got a crazy hat that's really warm and two 30-lbs dumbbells. Janet got a few nice cropped shirts, a hat, a couple 5-lbs dumbbells, and a sweater for her mom. It was really productive. Janet and I each got a couple CDs at the House of Records, which is still my favorite CD store around. At Target I got a few pair of thermal underwear and the movie Crash for $8.88.
I didn't write about this last weekend, but this is my second little shopping spree after doing the same the weekend before. My wardrobe is really changing (finally). I'm really glad that I have a new selection of good clothes to wear instead of wearing whatever I happened to have from thrift stores or birthdays or whatever I had over the years. I'm also better about getting clothes that actually fit... it sounds strange, but a lot of my clothes I used to wear were just a little too big.
Anyway, when we got back on Friday from Eugene we visited with some family again, ate Chinese with everyone and then went back to the beach house and relaxed and then slept.
Saturday started later, which was good. We got to eat at Moe's (my parents were nice enough to go again with us after going on Friday when we were off eating at Toshi's Ramen!). We stopped at St. Vincents and got some books, a couple candles, a couple records, and a special gift for Janet's grandma. I saw my grandma who is doing good for having just had surgery. We didn't stay long until we went to eat pizza, then went Monte Carlo bowling. I bowled alright, but I kept getting worse every game. Janet improved a lot and ended on a 94 which was really good for her, she might break 100 next time. I ended up winning $1.25 from picking up a couple spares and getting a strike.
Today we got up, cleaned up, and drove back. The pass was slow because people were afraid of it being slippery. I have to be at work again tomorrow at 8:30 and I'm not very excited about it. I have to get some stuff ready, but I might just get up early to do it. It shouldn't be that bad though. We're getting close to the end of the term, so I can't really pile on the work like I normally would. It gives me a chance to ease into teaching there. The last couple weeks of December are Activities weeks so I won't have to teach anything new. I can use that time to really plan ahead. And by then I should have internet at my place by then and Janet will be living with me. The end of this year should really be looking good for me.
I guess that's about it, I don't normally write much about what I've been up to... I thought I would for a change.
