Photoshop 7: The Basics

1). Welcome to Photoshop Qstorm. This is just to give you an overview of using the basic functions of PS7. With this(the tutorial) I’m going to include screenshots of PS7 so that you won’t get too confused. I suck at giving directions so forgive me from go. * grins *

2). The first screenshot is a blank screen of PS7 that I just opened. Please ignore that little box that says (BSR). That’s the program I’m using the do the screenshots and it has nothing to do with PS7.

Its a thumbnail so click on it to make it larger.

3). Ok so you see the screen. On the left hand side you see a long rectangular box with various small tools in it. That box is called your TOOLS PALETTE. It contains all the things that you will need to get your fanart and stuff ready. Most of thoe tools double or triple as something else. Right under that box is your HISTORY PALETTE. Its blank for the time being because right now I’m not doing any task in PS.

4). On the right hand side you should see 4 square like boxes. They can be in any order. Just make sure you have 4 of them. I believe there is another box but I got rid of it and can’t remember what the heck box it was at any rate. For me the 1st box is my: FONT PALETTE. It contains all the fonts that I use in PS and like with all windows fonts you can change the sizes. The 2nd box is my: NAVIGATION BOX. That is the box that gives me a small preview of anything that I’m working on in PS. The 3rd box is my: COLOUR PALETTE. Those little squares represent all the colours that come preloaded in PS. You can always make your own colours/blends and ad them to your palette. But that’s for a later lesson. My 4th box is the: LAYERS PALETTE. This is the most important palette in PS. This is what makes your jobs easier or harder.

5). Right at the top of PS you will see your MENU BAR: it says FILE, EDIT, IMAGE, SELECT, FILTER, etc. This menu bar is also very important in your fanart work and you will be using it a lot.

6). Right under the MENU BAR you will see a SUB BAR. That is important only when you are cropping or using the PATTERN, CROPPING, FEATHERING.
