Hey guys. I'm having some difficulty with my computer; stayed up until 2:00 last night to try and fix it. Long story short, it's not fixing and I might need to totally reimage it. Major problems with all software (but fortunately not with the Internet).
Any tips? Here's the help topic I posted on Lenovo forums for T61s.
Thanks in advance for any help I get.
My computer, at present, refuses to load any of the ThinkVantage programs (Access Connections, Maintenance Manager, etc.) A few of them will load the start-up screen where it announces the program name, but then they freeze and nothing happens. In addition, Symantec Anti-Virus has suddenly decided to turn off Auto-Protect and refuses to turn back on. Also, Windows Explorer keeps restarting every 5 minutes. There may be other problems that I've yet to discover.
What could've happened? Could it be a virus? I've been scanning regularly and the only thing that's come up is a Trojan about three weeks back that was quarantined. I'm scanning again right now and it hasn't found anything so far.
It might also be my fault, but I'm not sure. This afternoon, I uninstalled a bunch of unnecessary programs in an effort to clean up my computer. I'm 99% sure I didn't touch anything concerning Lenovo or Symantec Antivirus. In addition, prior to when the problems started to occur, I pressed F1 while the computer was booting up to enter the BIOs mode to check the temperature (I've been having overheating problems, but I don't think they're related issues). I didn't touch anything here either.
Finally, when I reinstalled the latest update of ThinkVantage System Update from the Lenovo website, the System Update started to work again. I'm not sure what this means. Please let me know if there's any way I can fix this problem. The things that really bother me are Symantec going out of whack and Windows Explorer restarting so often. Thanks very much.
EDIT: Symantec is unable to run a scan due to error code 0x20000003. Googling this gets me results from three years ago that tells of a patch to fix this problem.
Diskeeper fails to connect to the server and is unable to open at all. The event log says there's an error code of 1.
I'm going to add also that there are currently problems with Windows Defender, System Restore, and pretty much everything important on my computer. Meh.
Oh yeah, clearly, I'm going to be a bit slow with tags. Sorry, guys.
