There remains only a week and a half of school left in this semester. Granted, there are 3 tests within that time period and finals after that, but winter break is beginning to seem fairly close. I'm at that age where close friends are beginning to graduate -- It'll be sad to see them go. I'm generally terrible about keeping in touch with anyone, but I hope I can do so. Don't they always say that college friends last forever?
Anyway, the real point of this post is because of something that happened yesterday. Around midnight, I was startled by some knocking on my door. Due to the extremely obnoxious nature of the knock, I knew who it was immediately and was kinda ticked off that this guy was bothering me so late, but of course, I opened it anyway and proceeded to engage in short pleasantries. About 5 minutes into the conversation, he whipped out my phone and asked, "Lose something?" with a smirk. (He was that kind of guy. I'm very fond of him anyway, but he could really grate on your nerves if you weren't mentally prepared for it.)
My brain engaged in critical failure at that point. I just took it without really thinking and was like, "Hey yeah that's my phone thanks". I had no idea that I had even lost it. It wasn't until much later that I thought of all the horrible things that could've potentially happened -- it could have been stolen, I could have never seen it again, I'd be in a huge spot of trouble with my mom, it'd rack up huge phone bills, etc., etc., etc., whatever. The fact that a complete stranger had been nice enough to make sure that the phone found its way to one of my friends and the fact that the friend in question was willing to take a 10 minute walk out at midnight to retrieve my phone . . . was very, you know. Warm and fuzzy. Restored my faith in humanity and all; I've been walking around completely zoned out and humming all day. Of course, I was a huge ass when my brain was failing to work and I was just like, "Thanks so much yeah I'm glad I didn't lose it phew" when this actually happened. And then the guy was like, "Hey I bet the gal who found this is still there want to go say thanks to her" and I responded "Oh, no, I'm not crazy enough to go bother her." <--- Huh? What did that even mean?
I hope this person knows that I really appreciate what she did. I'll try to beam out psychic 'thank you' rays or something.
On a closing note, I think the part I liked most about Touhou was actually the music. I've been listening to arrangements on Youtube all day. Thought I'd share my three favorite.
An amazing vocal rendition of Byakuren's theme
(Eternal Skyscraper - Cosmic Mind). It's incredible, probably the piece of voiced music that's struck me the most since I discovered Higurashi's Dear You songs two years ago.
An upbeat, Latin version of Kogasa's theme
(Beware the Umbrella Left There Forever). This one's just plain fun.
Full orchestral version of Nazrin's theme
(A Tiny, Tiny Clever Commander). It's got a fairly epic feel to it, and as a violin player, I appreciate the violin solo in the beginning. =P
