Diary: Week of 21/01: Telephones, films, and the Barbican

They've put me on the phones at work. Thought I wasn't going to like interacting with customers so directly, but it actually adds more variety and interest to what I'm doing. Kind like the routine being broken up by various customer's random wackiness. :o)

Best phone conversation of the week was still with Operations support though...

Me: 'The surname is Delves'
Them: 'Sorry, the line is weak, can you spell that.'
Me: 'Um, yeah, sure, D for... dot, E for... elephant, L for... lots, V for... very... E for.. Elephant again... S for' (significant pause here whilst I try desperately to think of a word that isn't 'sex' or 'sod') 'erm... something'
Them: 'So that's D for Delta, E for Echo, L for Lima, V for victor, E for Echo and S for Sierra'
Me: 'Erm, yeah, that's it' :o/

Suddenly feel the need to learn police letter codes so as to feel less silly on the phone... :oP

Saturday I went down London to visit young sweetcyanide and made a failed attempt to get her to watch TMNT with me, and instead watched a few comedy shows of her choosing instead, thus I was introduced to both Doctor Terrible's House Of Horrible and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and have taken a liking to both :o)

Sunday we met up with Elegy_of_Flames, MisterFallen, and some more whose lj names I'm not sure of, at the Barbican for the seduced exhibit. Was okay, though the best ones were the larger canvassed paintings and there was only a small amount of those. Was interesting to see though :o)

Thoughts: Political Irony

I hear some people say that 'political correctness' is outrageous and silly and people shouldn't be so quick to get offended about nothing.

Why then are the people who say this so quickly to take exaggerateevery oddball story regarding people being overly-politically correct in some quaint village somewhere in the middle of no where and act like it's some nation-wide political issue that we should get irate and angry about?

Anyone think that it's a bit odd that these people are so obsessed with stories that are outright fabrications or exaggerated beyond recognition that they get seemingly very serious about them but yet don't seem to have the same concern about more seriously and nation-wide issues like Racism and religious intolerance?

Seriously, what's more important...

1) An government agency in a particular city decides not to put stars or angels on the top of their Christmas trees...

2) An ethnic minority gets violently assaulted for reasons of race...

Please England, get some perspective... the only 'Political Correctness Madness' that we're suffering from is that there seem to be so many Daily Mail readers obsessed with the subject.

Whine: Computers

Damn hard disc stopped working today :o/

Had to move it to my other computer to get the files back, and now am stuck using Internet Explorer and the like until I can be bothered to get this one sorted out... :o( I also have no sound at the moment... :o/

Starting to think it might be time to get a new computer but I'm far from rolling in money at the moment :o/

Just as an accompanimentto this last link, I think way too many people are caught up in evaulating whether they're pretty, or whether their lifestyle is silly or unhealthy.

That's not at all relevant.

If a fat person is refused entry to a bus on the grounds of being fat, one doesn't take that moment to debate to what extent medical fears about being overweight are justified or exaggerated.

We're certainly not normally so shallow as to think that people we deem 'ugly' deserve what they get.

The point is more so that this bus driver (by appearences) refused to let people on his bus for no better reason than deviance from aesthetic norms.

That's pretty stupid.

Plans: Weekend

Okay, am thinking of booking tickets for Wicked for this Saturday if okay tickets are still available. I believe it's just me, sweetcyanide and psycho_smurf at the moment, though I need to double-check that.

Me and sweetcyanide are also thinking of clubbing this Friday...

Think the choices are Inferno, Popstars, and Dead and Buried. If anyone knows of anything else let us know :o)

Don't think Dead and Buried is likely. I like the music, but it's a matter of convincing people to go because I suspect we'll get bored again if we can't tempt enough people to go (and I guess we just don't know that many Trad Goths...) :oP

Inferno might be okay, but I'm more tempted by Popstars at the moment (which I hear is a kind of alt gay club)

Let us know! :oP
